Hey guys, I am finishing a 71 Stage 1 project somebody else started. The carb is part number 7041242 which I believe is correct for this car. Right? should it have that 2.25" long fuel filter housing screwed into the inlet or something else. The way I received the car it does not and the fuel line is about that same distance away from reaching the carb. I took one of those filter housings off another carb, probably not a Stage 1 carb, and its threads are a larger diameter than the inlet on the Stage carb. What am I missing? Thanks, John Boy
This should be the correct fitting. http://quadrajetparts.com/rochester...fittings-long-filter-inlet-fitting-p-436.html
That's what I was thinking Larry but the 1" diam. is too big for the inlet. The id on the inlet is about .884. Weird.
The 1971 7041242 will have 7/8"-20 threads and use the long housing/filter. The seal was after the threads and fiber material. This proved not to be a good set-up, and was revised after 1971. Having the seal after the threads put them in the fuel, and erroded away the material with long term use. At least 50 percent of the early carburetors will need a heli-coil at the inlet for the fuel filter housing threads. The 1972 and later carbs used 1"-20 long filter housing, and use white plastic seal before the threads.......Cliff
