I need a new top for my 72 Skylark. I would like recommendations on where I should buy my new black top from. Thanks Tim
Have a top shop put it on for you. If you have not done it before.....not something a novice should do. I did it twice and I no longer do it. My top-guy gets it perfect every time and for $200 not worth my aggravation to do it. Expect to pay $200-250 for the top and another $200 to have it installed. He only uses EZ-ON tops since they are pre-marked and are a quality top.
Wow that is cheap! I talked to one of the best shops in town and he wants $1,200. That includes everything, pad, wires, top with glass window and this is the guy that did Trishield's triple black GS 455 vert, it is beautifulllllllllllll! The guy uses lectron??? The same manufacturer that made the GM tops, fit and finish is amazing! Tim
top i paid $300 under the table to a guy.i did one myslf at 15 years old, never again :error: its a bitch of a job uzzled: check out whoes doing it,& dont buy it from year 1 :af: or jc witttney :error:
I work out of my house....more like side-yard for all the cars I build. The top shop owner, Joe Lewis, has been doing the tops on all of my cars....Cutlass Supreme conv, Corvette conv, 3 GS conv soon to be 4, etc. The man is a seasoned veteran and he gets it right every time. I just did a complete top on the 70 Stg1 I finished.....I provided the top pads, side cables, w-strip, top well and cost for him to purchase and install top, rear glass window, staple/tack strips w/tax came to $1070. He is located on this coast, in Clearwater FL.
Remember that the convert. top is comprised of a lot more parts than the top proper--seals, pads and header bow for example. These additional parts can add several hundred dollars to the cost of the job.
IN NY they want $1200-1500 in Miami $650 to $800 cost of just a quality top complete is $400 this is for glass window .15 years ago it was $400 to do the job.My herd can all use new tops
Classicbuicks.com has OEM tops for $300. Variety of colors. They also sell a weatherstrip kit for the tops or you can buy the weatherstrips piece by piece. Hope that helps. -Cort 1968 LeSabre convertable
If you have a shop do it ask them if you can bring your own top in. Sometimes they will suggest a manufactor to buy from & sometimes they would say FORGET IT. We are doing a top for our 89 RS Vert (Camaro by the way) & we asked one guy & he said We can only buy from suggested we go through Robbins Auto Top Company. They also sell stuff for the buicks. But he wanted nearly 1500 for all the work. Then we contacted on of the shops that the local corvette place works with ( I like dealing with the corvette place & know the owners really well) & he quoted me 900 for everything with the same top as the other guy was going to sell me.
