Hi everyone, Can someone please post a pic here from either a manual or from their own car of where the Emission Control System Charcoal Canister is supposed to have its hose hooked up to? This is for a 1972 Skylark 350 4bbl - not using a thermo vacuum gauge. I have the 1972 assembly manual but cannot find any pics of where the hose goes to. My canister has two hoses - one closest to the driver's side fender goes down and hooks up somewhere below the engine. The other hose had hooked up to the air cleaner on my car's 2bbl set up before switching it to a 4bbl (with ram air cleaner). Any ideas?
Chris, For a 1971 in the 1971 assembly manaual pages 6-7.6 and 6-7.7 it shows the charcoal canister and hook ups. 1972 should be the same I believe. Looking at the carb from the front, the small hose should hook up on the bottom right of the carb. The bigger hose from the canister hooks up to the line going back to the tank that runs along the frame under the brake booster area.
Hi Carl, Would you happen to have a pic of that page from the '71 manual? I think that I am missing that page as I have the 6-6.5 page with vacuum routing, but not the later page for the canister. My canister does have the hose hooking up under the break booster as you describe. The bottom right of my carb has a hose going to the T.C.S. solenoid at the moment so hopefully a pic from the manual would help me out.
Hey guys, the smaller 1/4 inch hose does not hook up to the carb in 72 because there is no port on the carb there like in 71. It does hook up to the aircleaner on a 4 barrel as well. You need some kind of plastic elbow on the air cleaner. The old one may be the same. Both hoses should leave the cannister and are held by a plastic strap on the front lower part of the wheel well. Both hoses use this same strap. The small hose turns and runs ove the valve cover to the air cleaner. The bigger hose continue along the lower part of the wheel well to another strap on the lower rear of the wheel well and then attaches to the metal tube. Does that clear it up?
>>Thanks Dave, I'm looking at the pic I found on the board and noticed there is no extra port on my carb. I currently have a three port metal connection that I think I can use to help hook up the canister hose.
Okay, I removed the elbow from the 2bbl air cleaner's snorkle and found a similar sized hole on the bottom of the ram air cleaner - only thing is I have to cut a notch on the hole to match the opening on the 2bbl air cleaner so the elbow can fit through and be held in by the metal tab - will be an easy mod. Thanks for the info guys!
Hi Rob, Yep, in your second pic - #21 is the set up I am putting together - just have to notch the hole on the ram air cleaner so it fits through before using the metal holding tab.
I'm not trying to hi-jack the thread... but where can I get a shop manual for my 72 Riv? I'm assuming these are factory manuals that you guys have.
Daves72: These two manuals covers most of your car: (sometimes these turn up cheaper on eBay, but it was the only one I could find right now) http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1972...20378985386QQptZMotorsQ5fManualsQ5fLiterature and: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1972...90009389866QQptZMotorsQ5fManualsQ5fLiterature
www.gearheadcafe.com sells them on CD ROM. Also TA Performance sells reproduced manuals. The Manual covers all series for 1972.
