I just got done talking to a guy that is selling a 1970 GS 455 locally and wondered if anybody could give me some opinions on buying the car!

It is a 455 car from the vin number and is automatic on the floor. The options are as follows Black bucket interior, tilt wheel, power windows, AC, power drum brakes, rear sway bar, boxed lowers, not sure about rear axle ratio!

It has original #'s matching drive train! Has all GS parts including slightly damaged grill, excellent hood and grates, aircleaner etc...
It has strait driver qualiy bumpers.

Floors are solid, trunk is solid, and one quarter good and other needs patched but owner has a quarter he cut from another car to replace it also spare trunk floor cut from that car also! Overall body in solid shape!

Only prob the car is torn apart for restoration. It is in boxes and the body is currently off the frame! Frame has been blasted and susp. redone and painted. Just needs body put back on! And quarter work.

I am in a bind trying to decide to purchase this car because i just recently purchased a 72 GS. What does everybody think about this cars worth. I would love to have this car to fix up but I cant fix two GS's with money and space limitations.

What should I do. I am going to look at this car Sunday and get some pics this will tell the true story. The owner described the above to me! Help me decide!!!:Do No:

The price for this car is 2000$ cash the owner said! Just come get it he said! LOL

    Need help ALL!!!

Sounds like a pretty good deal to me. There not that bad to put back together. I'm sure Pat wouldnt mind another project. And heck you can always sell your 72 and get some of your money back. So figure $2000 for the 70 455 car less what you can get out of your 72.When its all said and done you'd have apretty cheap big block car.

Don't take this the wrong way, If you were someone who "knows" about GS's, $2,000 is not even an issue! It's DEFINITELY worth that! I would buy it for that, no questions asked, if it were local! As a matter of fact, I just DID, recently! ('70 GS350, NOS PARTS included!):Smarty:

As long as the "rare" parts are included, though ('70 GS Grille, Ram Air Parts, GS Hood, etc.), no problem. If they're missing or damaged, then it may take a little more effort to research and put back together, but it's still worth $2,000, just being a 455 VIN with all of those options (Tilt, Buckets, Floor Shifter, #s matching, etc.)!:Smarty:

If SPACE is an issue, then DON'T buy it! If MONEY is an issue, then DON'T buy it! FOCUS on the ONE that you ALREADY HAVE: the '72 GS! Make it the car that you WANT, not the car you WISH you had.

If worst comes to worst, use one to build another if you really can't "afford" to build them BOTH!

DO NOT (!!!) sell your '72 GS to PAY for the '70 (if you buy it)! If you do, you WILL regret it, by finding out how hard it is to FIND the PARTS that you NEED to rebuild the car! You ALREADY HAVE THE PARTS, between the TWO cars, to make ONE "NICE" CAR! DRIVE "ONE" and FIX the OTHER (if you can MAKE it possible!):Smarty::TU::bglasses:

Pat, what is going on here? What kind of Father in law are you if you haven't bought this yet?

    Update

This Car was a sad disappointment!

It goes to show that one persons good is not the same as another persons!

This was not anything like what was described to me on the phone.

First I will start with GOOD POINTS.
    GS 455
Car is Burgandy Mist (78) with a black top. Has the original carb, motor, but not original trans! Frame was blasted and painted and susp. replaced! It has alum. Front drum setup. Has good GS hood, and Grates, nice aircleaner. Strait bumpers for core, probably driver quailty. Non correct floor shift console. Has good driver side inner fender. Tilt column shift column. Gauges.

The body of this car is destroyed by rust! The rockers are really bad. Floor need new pans. Trunk was replaced with flat piece of sheet metal. Some serious rust around rear window. Doors are ruined. Fenders are ruined at bottom rusted thru. Core support could possibly be saved with repair patch but inner fender welded directly to core support with patch!:Dou:
Has non correct 71-72 style bucket seats! Should be Bench from factory. 14 inch rally wheels in bad shape. Pass 1/4 panel cut off and replacement 1/4 cut from another car not that great! You would have to have NOS 1/4 to fix because he cut the top side of the trunk off with the 1/4. Really rough. Scale of 1 to 10 on the body I would say a 2 or 3. Seen many Winters!!!!

I did not take pics because garage was not lighted well and I thought this car was in very rough shape for the money! I plan to call him back to see if he will sell for alot less because of the condition of the body!

It is a shame for this GS 455 but it should be parted out in my opinion because the body is in such bad shape it would take mega- money to fix this car up!

Thanks for all opinions guys atleast now I dont have to make the decision on having two GS's!

You didn't say anything about the grill, was it toast?

Did you offer him a grand to take it off his hands? Seems like the parts would be worth more than that.

The Grill was really busted up bad but seemed all there.
I plan on offering him a grand that seems about right for the parts that are there.

  12. 69GS400s

    69GS400s ...my own amusement ride!

It Happens..... I once drove 8 hrs (each way) to go look at a convert. Looked good in Pics and description, plus the price was smokin' !!

Got there and saw a TURD of a car......Maaco's Worst paint job ever covering bad bondo work. Guy goes inside to answer phone so I drop under the car and pull out a pocket screw driver to "press against the frame" - Poked Several Holes right through it !!!!

He came back out and I :spank: :spank: :spank: him for misrepresenting the car and making me drive 800 miles

    ....I was Sooo Pisssed
