My 67 Electra is still in the shop. They siad they are not able to fire up the rebuilt motor because they cannot locate a Coolant temp sensor. They said it is L sahped with 2 wires and goes into the intake manifold. I called TAPerformance and they told me I should be able to get one from Autozone, Napa.... When I called Autozone and asked for a Coolant Temp Sensor for my car, they said none was needed. My question is, is this a coolant temp sensor or some other coolant switch of some kind? I'm going to try to take off work eraly and go pick up the sensor to take in and look at the picture parts books, but any help you guys can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in Advance
Well, I just found one. LOL It is the Coolant Temp Sensor. I got the part number from my local Buick Dealer. Part #1993444 It was discontinued in 1990 or so, but the dealer referred me to California Pontiac Resoration in Santa Ana, CA. 714-245-9800. They had it in stock and are express mailing it to the machine shop. It worries me that the machine shop has been down for 2 days on this, and it took me 1hr to find it. Oh, well. They are express mailing it so this wonderful little sensor is costing $25. Should be half that, but express mail is expensive. Anyway, I'll have some more questions soon, the shop is now trying to get a new gasket for the Carter AFB carb. I'll give them to tomorrow, or I'll just go and find one. Thanks again guys.
I can't imagine there is any difference between your 67 and my 68 temp sensor. Usually the sensor and the wire harness has two contacts in an L-shape, but only one of the wire harness positions have a wire going to it. I got mine at Kragen. If its not listed under your model try looking under mine (68 GS400).
Thanks, I got one to be express mailed to the shop. With the shipping, its an expensive little sensor LOL, but at least I don't have to take off work to run it down. This shop is really starting to get me PO'd. Did I mention they have had the car now for almost 4 months? :af: ou:
