Got my bro's 66 Riv back together. I installed an original S/P tranny from a donor 66 GS Riv that had been rebuilt. The problem is: It will not shift out of passing gear without letting far off the gas pedal. If you floor the accelerator on take off, it will not shift into low 1 without letting off the pedal also. I think it would go into passing gear @ 100 MPH if you floored it! How can it be adjusted? Can't stand it like this. May blow the engine with my brother passing a car too. Thanks

    John,
If it's an ST-400, it's a 3 speed trans. I'm not clear on the problem you are having. At light throttle, does it shift into 2nd, and then 3rd? When you floor it from a stop, does it shift out of 1st? If not I could be a governor problem, a stuck downshift solenoid, or maybe the modulator. Does it downshift from 3-2 at full throttle, how about 2-1?

Larry, Thanks for the reply and trying to help me out. I worked with the adjust. on the kickdown yesterday and got it working a little better. But, after driving it a few miles and giving it H#!!, it started shifting better. Guess it needed a flogging to un-stick! Thanks again. :3gears:
