I have a few programs that I used to be to update while online, virus software, windows update etc. For the last couple weeks when I try to connect my PC says a connection can't made or I need an internet connection to update, this is while I'm online. I even tried to upgrade my AOL(yeah, I know)and it says I'm not connected when I am. What gives?

    First of all "AOL"?...nevermind :)
I know for a fact that there hasnt been any updates for windows for at least 2 weeks..and as for your virus, what software do you use?
so just to make sure, you do have internet connection and can browse with no problem? or does the internet connection drop every once in a while?

Huh. I thought this was going to be about the automotive advertisements that are now popping up whenever I visit v8buick under a window called "3rd party advertisement". You know what I would like to do to the folks that do this stuff? It involves one thousand razor blades, lemon juice and a swarm of fleas.

    Chris-

Actual pop ups are coming up every time you visit here?

    I should edit that-

It's automotive.com, dunno why I thought it was 3rd party...

I'm not 100% sure, but I've gone to two websites from this PC today: v8Buick, and Oleg's Ready room (flight sim error/bug reporting site) and I'm only getting the automotive.com window from V8Buick. It's not really a pop up, it's another web page in a window, it seems. I haven't reported it to Jim because I'm not 100% certain that his bandwidth is being swiped, but you know, I should shoot him a PM anyway, just in case.

It's really aggravating...the website will be finished loading, but the waiting Icon will still be up. I can't acces any hyperlinks, etc, or even windows navigation buttons until this other page loads. Doesn't happen everytime I load a new page, but often. I am pretty p!ssed about the whole thing. Flippin internet. Actually it's not the internet it's the scumsucking people who exploit things that I'm mad at. Can't trust anyone to not take advantage whenever your back's turned. Man I really don't like people much, because of stuff like this. Everyone's out for themselves and now I'll bash my own brains out getting this damn cookie or whatever it is off the PC. Now I'm just getting a message that says that a download is finished. I haven't downloaded anything today, at least on purpose

    ...............sigh....................

I run AVG anti virus and Spybot. When I hit the update button in AVG I get " an automatic connection to the internet could not be established, please maually establish a connection, yadayada..",whileI'm online. I get this message for other stuff too. I don't know what has changed or why. As for AOL, believe it or not, its been the best dial up I've used so far. Cable is getting closer to my house though!!!

I use Mozilla almost exclusively now; its free and you can set it to block popups. Of course, there are some things that only work with MSIE. Of course, if its spyware its another story.

Oh, I think it's spyware alright.

You know how if you do a search here, all matches for posts under your search will have the search word(s) underlined in red?

Well, I get that on every page, everywhere now. For instance, on the windows "page not available" window, the word "Following" has "wing" in red and underlined, as if I did a search for it. Every page has this.

I am also getting new shortcuts on my desktop for online pharmacies, debt reduction companies, and online casinos. New buttons are appearing on my toolbar, for mortgages. I even had a dll extension that got downloaded on the 8th (not with my knowledge of course), and I can't delete it. I am getting redirected to commercial websites of all description randomly. (yes of course I deleted cookies and temp files)

If ever, ever I happen across the creature responsible for this, I will go to jail. Some things do not go over well with me, and this sort of thing is one of them.

Is there software available that will simply destroy all downloads from say, one particular day to present?
