    Erik,
How much of the cost of fuel is the tax?
In Alabama we're paying (yesterday) $3.579/gallon. Including about $0.40/gallon in tax (tax amount is dependent on which county)

It doesn't really matter how much tax there is on it: in the end you still have to pay that price to get petrol in your tank :Smarty:

It's been over 16 years ago since I last bought petrol for my cars, LPG is much cheaper, especially when you have a roadtax exempt vehicle :TU:

    My daily car also runs on LPG, roadtax is 1116 Euro (US$ 1487) a year / 93 Euro (US$ 124) a month
On petrol the road tax for the same car is 704 Euro (US$ 938) a year / 58.66 Euro (US$ 78.21) a month

    LPG is 0.80 Euro a litre (US$ 4.10 for 1 US gallon), petrol is 1.82 Euro a litre (US$ 9.15 for 1 US gallon)
So that's 1.02 Euro per litre (US$ 5.14 for 1 US gallon) more compared with LPG.

    Difference in roadtax is 93 (LPG) - 58.66 (petrol) = 34.34 Euro (US$ 45.79) a month.

    34.34 : 1.82 (petrol per litre) = 18.86 litre.
So if I pump more than 18.86 litre petrol each month, the roadtax is the same compared with LPG.
After that figure I save 1.02 Euro on each litre (US$ 5.14 for 1 US gallon) of fuel I put in the car :Smarty:

I'm always amazed when people run their cars on petrol in this country.....:eek2:

Funny enough, Rob (75Riv) ended up buying the same daily driver as I'm having, a black Peugeot 406 wagon on LPG.
We are now thinking about leaving the American car scene and start attending Peugeot shows (and boards) :bla:

But don't worry too much about that, we still have other matching cars :beers2:

Of course, you are correct. I find it interesting some politicians give oil companies a hard time for their profit from gasoline. At the same time the tax is more than the profit. Alabama does not have much in the way of public transit. Many cities in the US and Europe have much more public transit subsidized by fuel tax. Fuel tax in Alabama is low for that reason. This is the reason for my question.
Most interesting! I knew that LPG is very popular for autos in Europe. Now I can see why. Thee are a relatively few LPG and compressed natural gas vehicles here as well. And for Ethanol, too. The city of Hoover Alabama runs the entire city fleet of passenger cars on 85% ethanol.
    twin Peugeots ! Very Nice!!
Even Better!! 30 years ago , I bought a '73 Oldsmobile 88 convertible 455. My best friend had a '73 Riviera 455. His Buick had much more power and top speed than my Olds.

    Hey Erik

I take a short break at home but im going back to vienna for two days.

Right, since 2009 we in germany are not allowed to fuel our classic cars with lpg or other stuff that wasnt avalible back in the days the car was made. But there are (as always in germany) many exceptions that are too boring and too special to list here.

You did a very interesting calculation. Luckily we dont have a road tax here yet. But our politicians are discussing that too.

Big thanks for the hint. Ill post a message to the guy with the wheels. I like to see more pics.
You said you could ship them from TX. What would that cost if i pick them up in rotterdam??

    regards
