    Henry, I also have a 1970 blue/white gs 455 convertible.

Mr. wheeler I have xtra pushrods from a 1970 sp 350 engine.
I am in Gallatin if you need them. I hope this helps.

If you are taking off the rockers it is always a good idea to remove and replace it by loosening and retightning each of the retainer bolts a little at a time. Otherwise you could warp the rocker arm shaft. I usually give each bolt a half turn at a time until the bolts loosen to the point past the spring tension.
    Then reinstall in similar manner.

That's a good tip. It also helps ensure that the pushrods are all seated in the cups correctly, which is easy to have off a little. Usually if you wiggle them with your fingers as you slowly snug the shaft down as described above, you can clearly hear and feel them pop into place.

So did that mechanic put down his crack pipe right before telling you all that comical BS!? Did he wear an eyepatch and carry a sword?

    Unbelievable.

I couldnt see the key your talking about but I would bet it was placed there by a previous owner who had locked themselves out of the car one too many times.:Brow:

I think the key has a hole drilled in it and was bolted under the intake bolt, bent up and used as a anchor for the throttle linkage spring to attach to.

Ha! Just saw it in the pics! I didn't get the key thing either until what you said Rick. I went back over the pics and sure enough, there it was!

Having a properly functioning return spring is KEY!

I see the key. They are using it as a mount for the throttle return spring.
I've never seen that before, but it's kinda neat and certainly doesn't hurt anything as long as it's strong enough that it's not going to break, which would result in your car sticking at wide open throttle!

Regarding your bent pushrod.... WOW, it must be REALLY bent if it's that far out of the hole and still won't come out. The end must be pretty much folded completely over... or the lifter is stuck to the end of it??

If it were me, I'd definately take the intake off and have a look in there. It not "that" much work to remove the intake, and I don't know if I could sleep at night wondering what bent my pushrod that bad. And besides wanting to see what happened... I'd be worried about what might be laying in the lifter galley. I see it's almost broke in half... did any metal shavings or chunks fall down onto the hole already?

I really appreciate all yall's input & help. With the help of a friend we removed the intake manifold, and we finally got to that bent pushrod. The lifter and everything else looked all right...we put it back together again and changed the oil and started her up. It ticked for about 3 seconds and then the high idle....after a short while...the low rumble. Ahhhh, the low rumble, such a sweet sound. So I finally got rid of that ticking, and I learned a little on the way. Thanks again! -Vijay
