I've been lurking for awhile and have learned a lot from this site and it's members. I'm a former Chevy guy. I had a 70 El Camino but decided I wanted something with a back seat. Sold it and went looking for a Chevelle. While looking I ran across a 71 Skylark. I liked the body style better and thought the car had potential. The guys where I work laughed at the car when I first drove it there. Didn't look too great. They fell in love with it after restoring it. I'm really happy I went with the Skylark instead of the Chevelle. I'm 61 years old and have been a machinist for many years. I'm not an automotive machinist so you Seattle guy can forget bringing your parts to me. I'm a general machinist that machines everything from fire hydrant parts to rocket boosters. Maybe some day I can meet up with the Seattle area guys. Anyway, that's a bit of a description of me. Cheers to all. :beers2:
Nice to have another '71 Skylark owner here on the board. What exterior/interior color is your Buick? Please post some pics of your car when you can.
I had it painted midnight blue. Black landau top. The interior is black. All new interior. Still have a few things I want to do but it's mostly there. I'll post a pic when I can.
Welcome to the forum! Its good to have another Buick from the northwest. I think my 71 skylark looks better than a Chevelle too. When my wife wants to tick me off she tells me the chevelle has better lines........it drives me crazy, and she knows it.
Not that I have anything against women. I think they can do wonders in the kitchen. Duck and run. J/K
Well, I picked the Buick, she picked the Datsun 240z. I have to admit. The Z is sexier, but I think a mans car should be loud, mean and obnoxious.
Stanley, The local chapter of the Buick Club of America meets at the Performance Grill in Auburn the second Tuesday of each month (next meeting 8/12) at 7 pm, feel free to stop on by!
hey stan!! i am in renton, well, maple valley actually. if you ever want to grab a beer and talk buicks, let me know. i am about half a mile from highway 18 so auburn and kent are a blink away, and i AM in seattle fairly regularly. would LOVE to see a midnight blue buick, that is what i was aiming for with my baby. 67 riviera, non GS. my son and i picked it up and its brother <same car with buckets> in summer of 06. but yea, i am now in the process of sanding her down and a lot of little details, cosmetic mostly. on that note, maybe you could aim me towards a good carb rebuilder for my quadrajet? and please nobody tell me to get a holley, i dont WANT a damn holley!!! ha ha.... anyhow yea, welcome to v8buick, man. clark p.s. please show us all your midnight blue skylark, i know i speak for everyone when i say we would love to see your ride.
Can't make it this Tuesday but probably be able to make the next one. I'll see if I can find the shedule.
First of all, get a Holley! Then you can give me your quadrajet and I'll rebuild it for me. Kidding of course. I've got an Edelbrock 750 on mine but want a quadrajet. I'll buy one sometime in the future. Love those Rivieras. I'd like to take a look at yours. Whenever you have time one of these weekends would be nice. Don't know any good carb rebuilders locally. Drop me a PM sometime and we can set up a day and time for me to hop over to your place. I'm in the South Park area.
Stan Welcome from across the Sound from another old f@@t. I live near the Bremerton Race Way, 7-8 miles. We need more Buicks here. I went to the Cruz car show in Pt Orchard yesterday and only saw 1 or 2 Buicks. Out of 400+ cars. lots of nice cars though.:beer Except the PT Cruisers Im a member of Puget sound Chapter with Chris. You should see his Cars. Very nice Gary
Stanley, Welcome to the forum. I too am a member of the local BCA chapter. It is a great group. We just finished our annual All Buick Open Show (see Buick Events section for pics). Every year (even when it rains) we manage to gather over 100, often over 150 Buicks, for this event. We are also a very active group as we try to have at least 1 event every month that we get together and drive somewhere. We have a side group ROF (Retired Old F@rts) that plans a driving event while everyone else is at work. You don't have to be retired or old, just available. I have gotten great advice, help and many good friends since I joined over 15 years ago. Come on down when you can and see for yourself. Glad to see another A body Buick proudly ressurected. Greg
Hi Stanley, Just across the border, here in Canada. Have a '71 Skylark GS455, and my parents have held onto my brother's 1969 Datsun Roadster 2000. If interested, a group of us will be attending a great show, close to the border. Details are listed in this forum : "Other Buick Events, Canadian, Pacific... sub-section. It will be held on August 24th. Would love to see you and your '71 Skylark there.Good luck in your project car! Take care, Nando.
