Has anyone noticed that complete 1 piece floors for A bodies as well as complete 1 piece trunk pans are now showing up on The Parts Place's website? The photos of the trunk panel show really complete coverage over the hump to what looks like the factory seam behind the rear seat, and up the rear body panel to the latch area, unlike the other panel kits which do not cover the far forward and rearward areas. Has anyone laid eyes on these panels in person, yet? What were your experiences if you've used them already? Have I been living under a rock, or do these panels represent something new to the resto parts lineup out there? After browsing several sites, I still can't believe that no one can repop front fenders, complete quarters, etc. for our cars, as there are panels showing up for more and more obscure cars from other manufacturers, and cheap, too. Thanks, Rudy E.
Someone makes 1-piece floor pans for A-bodies. I just bought 2 of them. They come with buckets seat brackets (manual seats) already welded to the floor and have the shift cable hole cut. This is a very nice piece. It fit perfect and many A-body vendors carry it. I belive they are made overseas but don't recall exactly. I am going to say Taiwan. I also bought the 1-piece trunk floor. Very nice. It does NOT cover the complete floor (about 2-3" short on each side) because you could not fit the pan throught the trunk lid opening. If you need a full repair panel, get the 3 piece set. The 1 piece was $85. I got all the sheetmetal from www.nationalpartsdepot.com as they are the same as a Chevelle. NPD has a HUGE distribution center just north of me so trucking was very low, $65 for all items.
Rudy, I have seen the trunk pan you have mentioned installed in a car. Mike Garrison (formerly Racebuicks) has installed this very piece in Rick Hendersons convertible. I was very inpressed with the piece and installation. (Of course Mike has done alot of repairs on the Buicks around here and we all are impressed with his work.) One thing Mike mentioned during installation is that not all rearend humps are the same, some triming will be required. Mike also said it was about a 16 hour job to install. And if the body would have been off the car entirely it wouldnt have taken nearly that much time. I plan on having one of these pans installed in my car once Mike has his new shop up and running in the spring.
While the one piece panel has been around for a little while, I thought that the photo of it on the vendor site showed more coveage area than others that I'd seen before. It seems to be the way to go, espcially if the body is off the frame and the lower quarters are being changed at the same time. I wish there were photos from one of these installs showing the blow by blow. Thanks, Rudy E.
He has mine on that list too. it looks worse everetime i open the trunk :eek2: I am looking forward to getting that done. but more so the back window area. mines is screwed. i need to send some pics to him.
