Is there a chance the car wont run because the carb is guncked up/old. I was told it would need rebuilt if i wanted a smooth run. What do you guys think?

How do I know if the coil is not hot enough. I get a thin 1 inch yellow spark. from the coil wire when manually connecting points. Perhaps thats why I dont get anything through the rotor?
is it possibly the rotor is worn out. I dont see any moving parts on the thing. So i dont see how it could wear out.??((((what are those two leaves that sling "out" under the rotor when turning used for))))

Man there are more varialbes here than i thought. Anyones held is appreciated. thanks

    Corey

Have you tried to start it yet? Is it all put together?

one inch is a LONG way for a spark to jump! I'm sure the coil is fine. If you get spark to the cap but not to the wires you have a bad rotor or cap. I'd replace them both. A carb that was sitting 10 years almost certainly needs to be cleaned out at the least. I'm waiting for your post that says, "it runs!!"

The reason I said not to use a Fram oil filter is too many people have lost engines because of them . They have an internal flow problem and that starves the engine of oil .

Where are you located? There might be someone on this board who lives nearby and could have this old girl up and running in no time.

it has been a very long time since I bought points tune up parts but I used to like Blue Streak, Standard and Delco... The quality was better than the others back then. Today? They might all be chinese junk, I really don't know.

The ''leaves'' under the rotor button is the mechanical advance weights for the spark advance. they come in at higher speeds. 1 in. of spark is plenty. evidently you are losing the spark after it leaves the coil wire. replace the dist cap and the rotor button and the wires and the plugs. then the engine should run, unless the cat pee gas has gummed up the carb. to test this pour a small amount of gas down into the throat of the carb and try to start the engine. if it fires for a very short time then put a kit in the carb after cleaning it and blowing it out with compressed air.
