OK fellas, After reading all the threads about tire and rim combos for the stepchild 68/69 A body's I finally purchased. I am extremely happy!! I read about Specialty Wheels and used them versus Wheel Vintiques waiting list o No: I had rims here within 2 weeks. I went with standard 15 x 7's for the front and 15 x 8's with a 5 1/4 backspace for the rear. They were beautiful!. I picked up BF Goodrich Radial TA's all around. 245-60-15's for the front and 275-60-15's for the rear. The backspace made everything all better... I still have my lip and room to spare (for future 295's !!). My only issue is close proximity to my 3 inch exhaust by the very back of the rear tire. I went back to muffler shop and they gave it a little tweaking. This is a HUGE difference over my 205-75-14's !!!!!!! Tell me what you think.
Carl, All 4 rims plus shipping was 880 and change. Dale, Thanks. The weather is very warm down here (even for South Florida) I'm in flip flops, shorts, and a sleeveless t-shirt (and sweating). It may sound nice but I would love for some cool weather!!
We usually spend a week in Key West this time of year. Not this year though. :ball: Makes for a long winter.
I used Specialty Wheels too. Their about 3 miles from my house. Mike is a good fellow. 70 GSX 15x7 front,15x8 rear ...and on the 69 vertable, 15x7's on all four. Eric :3gears:
Looks great Scotty. Now all you need are the correct ribbed center caps. They are so much nicer than the 71 and up design. http://www.v8buick.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=70587&d=1143892583
Nice point Larry. When I bought my GS from Duffy's in Iowa back in 2006 they had purchased Ebay 14 inchers and caps. What year were the ribbed caps for? just GS's or others. Now I'm curious. ou:
65-70 used the ribbed caps. The emblems differed. 68-70 used the tri shield on a black background. Mitch Romanowski makes the repros that everyone sells. They are absolutely beautiful:TU: http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=47389&highlight=Mitch+Romanowski He is a V8 member, Mitchr http://www.v8buick.com/member.php?u=3791
Poston sells them, as well as Cars and Year one. Probably others also. Some are Tiawan, some might be U.S. made? I got mine several years ago from Poston's. I think they were Tiawan made. Seem to look fine. Good luck. Regards, John.:TU:
Thanks for the comments! I just got in touch with Mitch Romanowski. Looks like we'll be doing some business. :TU:
Scotty, Wait till you see these center caps. You'll wonder why you ran the others. Real nice repros. Let me know what you think.
Scot69GS400conv, those wheels look great! :TU: so with a 5 1/4 backspace 295's will fit 68-69 cars? I have a '69 hardtop and I'm still deciding on wheels/tires but for now its sitting on 205-14's like yours was, they're...:boring:
In reading through past threads I saw somewhere that somebody had 295's on their 68/69 but had to "adjust" the lip. I'm very happy with the look of the 275/60's.
