Hi everyone, I just joined the site. A guy at a local restaurant told me to check out this site and I was excited as to how much info there is about Buicks. I am presently looking to buy a 70 to 72 Skylark convertible. I've been looking for about a year now but am a little leary from what I've seen out there. Could anyone give me some tips and pointers on what to look for and what to be aware of ? I would like a nice driver. I've been a auto mech for 28 years and spent the last 10 working on Harley's, so fixing some things would'nt be a problem. I'm just not good at metal work so a rust free car would be better. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome Newbie: Lots of Skylark phreaques hereabouts. You will get a lot of good info - and MAYBE one of these members just might have a "Vert" as they call 'em for sale. We just went thru another newbie thread where the existing members gve rave reviews for the value that everyone gives or gets on this web site.
Your restaurant person gave you good advice.
You can read as much here every day as you'd like - get yourself squared away, and as a mechanic you might have something to offer us here.
You can also trundle thru e-Bay (?) and see either Skylarks or "Buick" thingies for sale - Craigslist as well.

PS: These guys all got neat car pix in their "Avatar" - it's not too hard - just get a photo of your Pickup or whatever, until you get your Skylark.

Welcome! Check out www.chicagolandbuick.org/ it's a local Buick GS Club chapter right in your area. It's a fun group with great members who can be of help to you. There are monthly meetings and races and shows in the nice weather months. Good luck finding a Skylark and have fun this summer! I agree with you, one that needs no bodywork would be the best choice and always keep the engine a Buick. Paul

Thanks everyone for your kind responses. Lakemoor, IL is right next to the Volo Auto Museum. I'm hoping come springtime the right car will surface, until then I'll keep searchin and checking the forum. I did check out that car on Craigs list but it had a bench seat and I would prefer buckets and a console.

If that is the only difference you want in that convertible and it is in excellent condition for the right price then swapping from bench to buckets and a console is very easy. I'm going to do this swap in my convertible in the near future.

Hey Chris, I got the phone number of the guy and am going to take a closer look at the car. I saw a post of someone doing the console swap and looks like its quite doable.

Hey Rick, thanks for the heads up. I'll check out the club.

Hi Neil, I work at the Harley shop on the corner of Chappel hill and Rt 120. Maybe some day you could stop by and show me your baby. I promise I'll try not to drool on it.

Welcome, I bought both my bikes from McHenry Harley and Marty just picked them up for winter storage last week. Great little shop. My club runs the show in Mundelein (parkonpark.com). I would also try the Milwaukee craigslist, alot more old stuff, and usually cheaper. Let me know what your range is, and I will keep an eye out too.

    Harley,

First Chicagoland Chapter meeting for 2010 is Sunday Jan. 24 at 10:00 am. It is at Caspers Electronics and is usually a very well attended meeting.

That is very close to Lakemoor. You can meet some folks and sign up to become a member at that time as well.

    Hi avc1966,

Any chance of having a "Buick" night again? I know it is not in keeping with the "Theme", but if you could find a way to make an exception for the GN's and T-Types, for that night, I am sure you would more than double your "Buick" participation.

Great show nevertheless. Unbelievable collection of antique muscle!

Heres another car I looked at. It seems a real straight car and rust free but I'm not crazy about the color. It was repainted. I'm thinking if I picked this one up I could change some things over time and make it a sweet car. Any opinions of feedback would be appreciated. Thanks
