Is the tran in the 400 have the switch pitch conv ? I have read this is not just an average st400 and if not what are the benefits and pitfalls I could run into ???
A 66 Buick TH400 has a switch pitch torque converter. Check for the extra switches on the throttle linkage, and a couple wires down to the trans. Pitfalls, sometimes the throttle switches aren't working right. That trans can be used to get you moving a little faster, and creep less at idle, if the switches are working. Stock it won't do anything in normal mid driving range. But it can be changed to smooth mid range and add some response, with an electronic control. Bruce Roe
