    Overseas..

OK now that I have introduced myself, time to ask the first questions.. please answer if you can :)

    * Any recommendations for where to buy parts, preferrably online.. I only found one good store but they don't ship overseas

    * Where can I get a catalogue of GM parts numbers for my car (see sig)? I have the 1968 chassis service manual but that doesn't have the GM numbers. I tried searching ebay, amazon.com etc but to no avail..

Just a fun fact at the end here.. My car was imported from USA this summer, since it's over 30 years old it was very cheap to import.. If it was a new car with the same weight, engine size and power, it would have cost approx. $100,000 in fees to the government alone!! Classics are cool :)

Attached is a pic of my car in the snow...

    Bjorn:

We had a citizen from Norway stay with us once while he obtained a US pilots license. Very nice person who like you has mastered many languages. My wife is Dutch herself.

With respect to parts I for one would have to respond to your question with "What kind of parts and are you talking: engine, body , interior, suspension etc". We also need to know whether you are talking used or new (NOS) parts. There is no one source but if you can be specific about the part there is not much about Buicks unknown to the people on this Board. Many on the Board sell parts and will repond to your specific needs.

For a parts book they are sold by several Vendors listed in the back of the publication Hemmings.Do you have access to it? It does have a website but I do not know if the vendors are listed.

I have been able to find many parts online, but these are the ones that I'm having trouble with:

    Headlight actuator assembly
    Courtesy lamp lens (rear)

Any tips as to where I can find this for my car, is it a standard gm part perhaps? I've been searching for Buick parts only..

Could one of you who knows Rivs help this gentleman from Norway with parts for a 68 model?

    Thanks

Wow, your Riv is the same color as mine but mine has no vinyl top. Hmmmm.. we might be competing for parts. :Brow:
    I don't need much so don't worry.

I have some Norwegian in me... 1/4 as we say over here in the melting pot. My mother's side, Larsen. Her Dad's first name was Axel. I know we still have relatives there and my mother (84) used to communicate with them at Christmas. I believe they were in Oslo.

    Welcome aboard.

Thanks for the warm welcome! Your car looks nice, I don't need much either.. just a few small bits.. the only major stuff I need are those actuators for the headlights, but I can get the car on the road without them too.
Vinyl top came as an option for about $100.. my car has that but no disc brakes, which were the same price.. what was the original owner thinking! :Dou: I'd like disc brakes :)

Do your actuators work? can you send them to me? *lol*

    Bjorn,

Actuators? You talking about the vacuum canisters?

    Gary:

Do you have a Riv parts book so we can identify the GM parts number for him? If had that we could get someone with a GM parts finder hook up to run the numbers to see if there are any NOS out there on a dealers shelf.

If not then perhaps a Buick specialty parts house like the Buick farm or Cars(www.oldbuickparts.com)? I have GS cars. Where to the Riv boys find their parts?

I assume the problem is diagnosed correctly. I do not know RIVs but if there are two actuators I would look for leak in the vacuum source or hoses to the actuators and not the actuators themslves. Bjorn are you sure you have the problem isolated and identified correctly?

Yes, at least one of the two actuators are broken, bent rod, missing seals, I am not able to fully move the rod etc.. However, they are hooked up in such a way to the vacuum system that a leak in one of them would cause both to fail. I am going to unplug the one that I know is faulty and put a plug in the vacuum hoses to test the other one maybe later today or tomorrow.. thanks for the effort in trying to help me with parts :)

By the way, if you get that GM part number, please post it here, as my beloved dad works at a gm dealer (opels, not buicks) so he can probably run a check for me.

    Bjorn:

I checked on line and Cars does have an extensive Riv parts inventory. The on line site is not real user friendly. If you want to call Glenn at CARS 908 369 3666, he is real sharpe and will know if he has it and if not will know where to get it. Ask him for a paper Riv catalog. I just have the one for his GS parts.

Bjorn the parts books for most cars are now sold on a CD ROM.

Oldbuickparts.com has the courtesy lights under Riv parts group 11 for 5.75 US each. I see the headlamp motor actuator for 66-67 both NOS and used so he carries this type of part. I do not see a 68 but his stock changes so you need to call or email Glenn.
