Huh, is there some kind of Holden-Opel connection? I see Opel for sure?

No Opel, but plenty of Holden. The six was the Chevrolet 250 ( which we never saw in Australia) while the V8 was Holden's 308.

I first heard of them when I bought a book of El Camino road tests in pre internet days and there they were.

Some more Sth African El Caminos here: https://www.curbsideclassic.com/blog/cc-outtake/cc-outtake-the-bakkie-is-back/
