Thought you guys might want to check this out. I didn't put it up here for a lead, I didn't run the number so I don't even know if it's right. But you can look at the pics or file them for reference. You can see the dot I spoke about, that seems to be a unique Buick thing. Hey, it's $80.00 off today, ebay has a sale or something going on. https://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-ROCHES...ash=item5d784e97d2:g:PdIAAOSwa39UylZz&vxp=mtr
The original Stage 1 carburetors in '72 were 7042242 (non-California) and 7042942 (California). There was not a different carb for manual or automatic transmission for the Stage 1. Maybe that eBay carb is some sort of service replacement or something? I've not seen that number before.
yep - those look like mid 70's era service replacement 242's. It was around then Rochester must have made a run of service replacements, I have 2 1971 242 service replacements that look exactly the same, right down to the magic marker on the secondary air valves. Although the market will bear what it will, I didn't pay anything near a grand for them. I would like to see the actual cast carb number and production date on the carb body before plunking down a dime...
Delco catalog from 1974 lists the 24-166 carb as the replacement for original 7042242 in non-CA Stage 1 with AT. Same catalog lists a 24-162 service carb for non-CA MT and for CA AT or MT.
