    True...
someone correct me if I'm wrong here, but to me it looks like the VERY hard to find 1970 version...not the 1971-72 style like most of the nos's!!!!!!

    Harvey,
The 70's have 3 square metal areas that are pushed outward towards each headlight bucket. The result is the headlight buckets rest against these 3 sheetmetal pads.

The 71-72's did away with this. They left those areas flat and installed 3 plastic guides for the headlight buckets to rest on.

That and the date of "70" are the basic differences.

    Hi Duane,
This is from the ebay listing:
There is also the stamping BMD 43, and finally the date code stamp of SAE H70.
Could you decode the date coding for me. I want to check the code on mine as it does have the three bumps so it's a '70.
    Thanks
    Harvey

I almost feel embarrassed.....JW got a hold of a brand new, NOS 1970 core support for my GS restoration at a swap meet two years ago....$50 if I remember correctly! :eek2:

    Very reasonably priced considering...
    - it is an original production '70 support,
    - the condition of the piece,
    - being refinished with epoxy primer & correct shade of black...
though I no longer use GM reconditioning black.

Currently am in the middle of restoring two early '71 GTO coresupports, as well as another '71 T-37 corresupport. Refinished similiar to GS piece above, last shipped '71 GTO support went out for $850, & had 17 hours of work in it + materials. Customer was thrilled to get it... his '71 Judge had f/e damage at one time & had a late '71 style coresupport substituted. Like the '70 GS coresupports, several of the Pontiac A-body coresupports are getting near impossible to find in easily rebuildable shape. Several upcoming supports will take an easy 30 hours of work to restore.

will a 71/2 core support fit in a 70 Skylark?I'm not so concerned about "correctness".I just want to save money and get to and from where I'm going without the radiator falling out?

    Yes it will fit fine.

There are only minor differences Duane mention above.

    Harvey,
The numbers you mentioned "BMD 43" and "SAE H70" are not really date codes.

"SAE H70" just means the last revision for that part was in 1970, that's why all the 71-72 core supports are "SAE71", as the core support was revised in 1971 but was not changed for the 72 model year. If it had been changed in 1972, then they would have "SAE72" stamped into them.

I have seen that same number "BMD 43" stamped in many differently dated 70 core supports. It could be correct but without looking at the other pieces you can't tell.

Every seperate piece of a core support is dated, including the mounting cups. The most accurate/closest date to the actual parts assembly date (when they welded everything together to make the core support) is the date that is stamped on the top bar.

The top bar has 2 numbers stamped into it, namely the part number and the date code. If you list those numbers here I can tell you when it was built.

    Hi Duane
    The numbers are........
1231398 and 49. The "49" is stamped upside down to the part number.
    Thanks!

Ill take a guess as the 49th week of 69?

I'm trying to learn all these numbers.........lol
I dont know why? I think it is interesting to go over a car just to see what was replaced throughout its life.
