nu-relics power windows in '69 Skylark

    Hi all,

I thought I would share my notes about installing Nu-Relics power window conversion on my '69 Skylark 2dr hardtop.

First off the kit they sell is for Chevelle and it fits except for the rear stop. They provide a bar that is too long and uses the rear arm rest screw hole to mount the bar. There instructions are not all that clear. I cut the bar shorter, drilled and tapped a hole, and used the arm rest hole before I realized I needed it for the arm rest. So I still need to figure out a solution.

You have to drill a 1.5 inch hole in the door and body. GM provided guide dimples. The front door will have to be removed to drill the holes. There are cheap carbide tipped hole saws that to the trick.

Take your time thinking about where to run and secure the wires to the switches. I didn't do a good job at this and the window arms hit the wires. So I will have to go back and rework this.

Since my car didn't have a fuse for the accessory block and was missing the output side of the fuse holder, I had to modify the fuse box. I used a Dorman 85666 fuse block and removed a terminal. Then pop riveted it into the fuse box. Looks original and works.

In general the job can be a rabbit hole because it leads to replacing window felts, door seals, windows seals, realigning the doors, adjusting the windows tracks and stops to fit, etc. Oh, just go for new door panels while you are at it, and so on! In fact I still have the passenger door to finish.

It's a really nice improvement to the car. I own many 2 door hardtops because I love to drive with all the windows down and no B pillar. Now I can lower them with the touch of a button.
