Ive got a project to do.
I'm painting a dresser and night stands.

Picked the color at Home Depot tonight, and after much research and reading labels bought a gallon of Behr interior latex enamel.

I can see the need to thin it, but is it possible to spray it with an automotive gun?

Ive sprayed about anything and everything with my guns. just get the viscosity right and spray away. clean with the proper solvent(water for Latex) then I always run spirits through it before I take it apart for clening and storage. had the same guns for years.

I have an old Sharps 75. I have sprayed furniture with doggone near everything including automotive finishes. That is wood furniture. And yes, just gotta get the proper viscosity. And like he said after cleaning spraying water through do use some mineral spirits after to preserve your
    seals.

I sprayed the outside latex paint with my cheapo paint gun. I had extruded face cedar siding on my house which is completely covered with vertical lines cut into the wood, I still think spraying was easier than brushing:)

You may have mix a 3 to 1 ratio, paint to water, to thin out the latex enough for spraying.

I've done it with a Campbell Hausfield syphone feed gun. It worked great... no thinning required.

I've painted latex paint thru my automotive gun bunches of times, just cleanup with water and if needed run lacquer thinner thru it. Just make sure you get it dry or you will rust up your gun. I've painted interior doors and all kinds of furniture. Just thin the paint with water.

    This all sounds very promising.

So I'm doing a dresser that's real hardwood.
Its already painted a celery green, and Im painting it a slate blue.

I know I have to sand it a bit to rough up the surface so the paint sticks but I don't have to sand the other paint off right?

And I figure because its already painted, no need for primer.

there are a lot of little nooks and crannies...the drawers are have set in bead board... it will take me a month of Sundays to sand every last detail. I'm thinking just the major flat surfaces.

Basically just rough the surface with some 240 grit, and Im good to go?

I've used latex and enamel for furniture, doors, shutters, etc. Although my paint gun can be set up to be pressure or siphon feed, with pressure feed I got better results and didn't even have to cut the paint.

Well its done. Covered the whole garage in plastic, parked the Buick outside.

The top took a couple tries as I kept getting fish eyes in the paint. What causes that? I ended up rolling the top with a fine foam roller and still came out nice and smooth. Spraying sure made easy work of the drawer fronts.

Also I could not for the life of me figure out how to remove the drawers. Maybe because its kids furniture they are not meant to be removed? So I had to do a good tape up job before I sprayed.

What so you think? Looks more like a boys room now!
BTW the boy is due any day now! Cripes time flies!
Induction scheduled for the 13th, but my wife's Dr doesn't think she'll make it that long.

Very nice job!! The fish eye is normally caused by surface contamination.
Usually silicone. Many furniture dusting agents and cleaners/waxes contain silicone. I used to be able to buy liquid silicone at auto paint stores and I would add it (a drop or two) to each quart of finish I would
spray. I am sure there are better ways to combat fish eye than this though.

    Thanks!
That would make sense as the top of this dresser had marks on it that they store tried to remove with some furniture polish. It was really shiny when I picked it up. Hence the reduction from $2000 to $400, (who would buy that at $2k anyway??) but I knew I was painting it.
