ordered a Flexzilla 8 ft whip hose 1/2 inch with 3/8 npt to ad to my already bulky 25ft 1/2 inch hose.... needed the extra 8ft or couldn't reach all corners of the car also to be more lighter and flexible near the gun also home depot time to buy some adapters and a set of them Husky high flow couplers so I can deliver higher volume to the sata while adjusting at the wall instead of at the gun as they are all bragging about  Then spend Sunday cleaning up the area again (for the millionth time ) and setting up and re-taping ....smell of paint is getting nearer, maybe next week if it warms up a tad in the 40's here in Chicago
Decided on color and we have ok weather for spraying so will be spraying one coat ppg epoxy reduced for sealer yea the red oxide Saturday in the evening let that sit overnight and early early Sunday lay 3 coats ppg dbc high octane red pearl let that sit a bit take a break and contemplate and then whack 3 coats of ppg clear .....dont know what kind of clear yet see what they suggest .....I pick up all that stuff tomorrow morning before work ......pricey stuff ou: most important I'm in the mood :grin: and feel confident since being my first bc/cc,we have all the right tools watched many youtube videos so theory is down if we mess up we take a break and try again ....more $ ou: so if you see pics here Sunday we good then..... if no pics then you know what that means  high octane red
I wouldn't recommend waiting overnight after spraying sealer, give it 20-30 min dry time and blast away ,unless your blocking the sealer too.wouldn't want any adhesion problems between sealer and base that would be a nightmare
I was thinking I have the same 7 day window as just unreduced epoxy ....I will check on that or just start it all on Sunday morning
stopped at the local PPG and picked up all supplies ...$$$$ ou: When it came down to which PPG clear to use ...I described to him my restoration and it being painted all apart and that I didnt want to go fast and price was not a problem he was just smiling at me and nodding his head yes while letting me finish ....he just went to the back and brought out a clear I have never heard of with a hardener kit called Automotive Art HS top clear 82-50 told me to relax and then started showing me pictures off his phone of a few cars that were cleared with it not cut /buffed ...pics looked awesome of course and that this brand has some kind of Glasurit connection of sorts and a euro clear He said he could of sold me any PPG or other brand and made a few more pennies but that I would be highly satisfied with it its a high solid clear that's crystal clear and very similar or better than the PPG 2055 they use to have . And it was not as expensive as PPG and again I told him that $ was not an issue on the clear and he smiled and reassured me again ....so we gonna fly with it on his high advice it mixes 2:1 and he told me to add 5%10% reducer and it has a 4 hr pot life its a 5 liter can of clear so it gives me 2 gallons to spray also we might hesitate till tomorrow to start bcs we have frost tonight mid 30 temps ...we have good heat in garage but we need the big door open tomorrow will be in the 60's couldn't find much info on this clear online like reviews or anything http://automotiveartpaints.com/Site...S Automotive Art HS 50 Clear Coat 82-50.pdf HS 50 Clear Coat 82-50 Automotive Art HS 50 Top Clear 82-50 is perfect for painters requiring a high performance, European Clear with over 50% solid content. 2:1 Euro clear Very high gloss Super transparent Never yellows Super hard finish Easy to polish Extremely good adhesion Simple mixing ratio Multiple speeds of hardener
6-7 am I be there make sure to call me or you have to jump the fence weatherman says 60 for tomorrow but if its below 60 we canceling
After checking some more weather forecasts today and tomorrow it does not look good so we wait for next weekend where we will be near the 70's ....painting under 60 is a no no but that's good bcs it gives me another week to watch more spraying videos on you tube
PPG High Octane Red ....I believe a great color choice .... 7 am Sunday didn't take pics of the base coat but that laid out nice and actually covered great in 1 coat bcs of the red oxide sealer so I gave it 2 shots of base kind of a wine like look and then really woke up when clear was applied The only problem I had was when I based one of the doors and had a 4-5 small blister like things pop up and only on that door ...let it dry up a few hours and wet sanded and shot another coat of base no problem cant figure out what maybe something in the air line AND THEN THE CLEAR 10am Sunday .....this is where I got nervous came out good though ...I believe I was spraying to fast/light on the side panels bcs I was a bit slower over the hood and roof and those came out like glass ,also a few dry spots that's only bcs I need more lights and over spray dust ...I believe it will be all nice after a little wet sanding
yea Chris I missed your call ...but no worries I am planning to wet sand the side panels and re-clear (flow coat) in a few days so I can try to get my side panels looking like my hood and trunk lid and also slow down when spraying ,to anxious here maybe drink a 6 pack before I start spraying to loosen up ou:
Well I had to strip down one door bcs of 5-6 little blisters that popped through dont know why... it was only this panel I am guessing something in the air line or ou: ....so stripped it down and re-sealed so painting base over 2nd attempt my 2nd issue is low on dbc maybe 1.5 pint left combined already ...problem was I spilled 1 whole guns worth besides testing/ experimenting another guns worth at the beginning
well I base coated the door again and all looks well ..a dilemma fixed also to ad I am really finding color sanding to be very therapeutic like ....really .
Awesome!!! Not many people can say they painted their car themselves....looking forward to more pics :beer
