i got a gm oil pump priming tool and wouldn't you know it it dont work on buicks... huh .......who wooda thunk it.....uzzled: so first does anyone in the nashville area have one i could borrow or anyone else for that matter.......... or should i try to modify the gm one to fit a buick i am trying to finish my engine upgrade and bowling green is getting closer thanks scott
Starting my motor that had not been run in a while, I made a priming tool from an old distributor I tried it on an another locked up motor, to see if I could free it up.. popped the dents out of the oil filter but could not spin the motor over.
the tooth wont go into the groove the tool is a hair too thick to slip into the pump gear i could grind it down a little and make it fit scott
For ages I've used a spade-bit type drill bit with the point knocked off and the entire blade wrapped up in several layers of electrical tape. Stick it in the oil pump groove and go at it; use TWO HANDS.
I took the shaft off a Chevy distributor and put it in a bare Buick distributor.Half inch drill [heavy duty]and all's well. Chevy distributor is much longer then the Buick for those that don't know it,the shaft pops up 3-4 inches above the Buick distributor.BrunoD.
took the one made in china back and got one made in tiwian(or however you spell it) and it fit.......o No: now my pump wont prime......boy i am getting disqusted scott
I use an any old Buick Distributor (231,350,455, etc, doesn't matter) and a socket (1 1/8th?) fits right over the advance spring dowels. If they ever break (haven't in a couple dozen priming events) I'll do as shown above and cut the distributor housing. Prior to this I did the old large screw driver with the cut off handle and piece of hose.
well i found the gasket in the oil pump was missing one of the rectangle cutouts so i made the modification and viola i have oil moving in the engine (i may make bowling green yet.......lol) installed the dist installed the intake (b4b) and then i found out you cant use factory valve cover bolts on the black poston valve covers............. installed the TA shorty headers and pieced together an exhaust from spare parts i had it aint pretty but i am getting short on funds.. and it will have to do for now....... scott
