where is the oil pressure sending unit.
and what thread type is in it.

I'm looking at adding an oil pressure gauge instead of the idiot light

unless Chris can get me that busted gauge cluster. :beer : sometime within the next decade  and i can look at installing some other components into it or get it fixed.

I'm looking at picking up an inexpensive electronic VDO oil gauge on e-bay.

anyone have anything good or bad to say about these?

    Nate

on a 455 the oil pressure threads into a hole about 2 inches back on the block, straight back behind the oil filter under the passenger valvecover. You manifold migh be covering it up.

I have a set of 3 guages (used) i am selling. Oil pressure, H2o temp, and a voltmeter. It is a cluster of 3 you can mount somewhere under the dash. $25 and its yours.

    doh.

Doh I prolly should have mentioned that i'm only a small block guy.

hey josh are those all using electrical sending units? and include the sender? I am hopefully going to get a busted OEM gauge (for a 70 and try to put new movements in it (thinking VDO) but others are an option.

I just have a problem running an oil line into the interior compartment.

If your engine is similar to a 340, the fitting goes on the right side, near the front of the block.

Put an Autometer cluster in my car two years ago. The electric oil pressure sender would not easily fit the 340 block, and had to plumb an adapter that sits about 1 3/4" out from the block to allow clearance for the sender. Wonder if that's why it only shows pressure between 12-25 psi? At least I know I have some pressure!

    i knew you had a 350

I think it is similar for both the 350 and the 455.

    2 things
    1) all those gauges are mechanical, except the volt meter, which goes to the alt.
    2) I had mounted my tach where the clock was. Probably what you were saying with your VDO gauge. I removed the clock, and slipped the tach in its place. I will get you a picture, they look very clean mounted that way, I will get you a picture in a couple of weeks.

How come you don't look at autometer. I looked at autometer, and VDO and everybody else, and I thought autometer was the best looking.

I am in the middle of doing a stainless dash, with 9 yes 9 autometer guages. SO I am selling all my other tachs and gauges to come up with some money.

I plan on having the coolest dash on the planet. Should make you feel like your in a cockpit:bglasses:

    custom sky Generally Nice Guy

    Josh is right

The sending unit on the 350 is on the right hand side(passanger side) of the block all the way to the front. It's actually a little above the oil filter. It's all most directly back from the lower rad. hose and just under the front of the AC and ALT. bracket. I wouldn't worry too much about the thread size because you will most likely need an adapter for the new sending unit any ways. You can find one at NAPA for less than $3.

    gauges.

I was looking at not touching where the filler plate is (clock/tach location) but where my idiot light setup is. I was going to try to get an old buick set of gauges (the actual fuel, oil, water one) but with broken movements. and replace the movements. and i was thinking vdo since there realitvly inexpensive and since i was not going to use their existing faces or needles even. I'm not worried about the look of the existing faces.

I was going to put in VDO millenium gauge set but since its a near perfect dash and an early 70 model (pointed gauge faces) i've talked my self out of that and i'll save my hightech look for my next project. I love the reversing look of the millenium. white with black letters in the day and at night illuminated color letters with a black face.

    just my 2 cents

    thanks for the replys guys.
