Just would like realistic prices to rechrome the following. I would like a range to present to my chromer.
*The following are parts for a 69 GS- but some can be multi years*

    1. Front bumper- $300-$1500
    2. GS air cleaner lid- (don't like the repro TPP one)- ?
    3. 1969 GS hood grates- pit free x2 sets-?
    4. Consolette tach cups x2- pit free- ?
    5. Hurst 5335 shifter- $86- ?
    6. GS trunk trim and end pieces- pit free- ?
    7. 69 Skylark/ GS grille surround- pit free x2- $190, $230, ???
    8. License plate frame- brass- ?
    9. Headlight bezels- ??

Please, post up the prices you have been qouted and/or paid. I know the pot metal will be more money...

    Thanks!

Shift plate for '70-'72 floor shift console, '69 about the same piece. $600 Cdn..
    Front plate on a non-shift console. $ 140.00 Cdn., +/- 6 years ago.
    '71 rear bumper $875.00 Cdn., +/- 4 years ago.
All prices are subject to a 13 % tax today, 3-4 years ago it was 15 %.
Freight on top of the prices, which is also taxed.
Supplied all of my own cores needing next to zero work.
Believe different/stringent environmental laws help drive up the prices.

About a year ago I had my '72 front and rear (N25) bumpers done here in Dallas for $375 each. This was for their standard chrome (not show chrome) with little to no straightening needed.

George, New England Chrome in E. Hartford Ct plated both my 71 bumpers for $500 each. They are real nice and you can drive there.

Do these "bumper" guys paint silver on the back side when finished?

I paid $160 for the following on my 72 skylark w/gs hood

    1. front hood trim molding
    2. set of potmetal inserts for gs hood

They came out pretty good, potmetal had some pits and hood molding.
They were a local shop in town.

Too bad your so far from mexico, my buddy just got the front and rear bumper and ALL trim (handles, windows, wheel wells, mirrors) chromed for $450 and it is just as good, if not better than places here in town.

I WILL NEVER DEAL WITH ANYONE THAT DOES ANYTHING IN MEXICO- ESPECIALLY CHROME WORK. Do a google search for Chromabonito or Juan Treminio.
Any and ALL chrome that I have seen from Mexico is thin, flakey, pure absolute SH*T. I would rather spray paint my parts before sending them to MEXICO for replate...

I got really nice straighten and replate work from Faith Plating in Los Angeles. $500 per bumper. The first place I went to didn't straighten them, but plated them. Unreal. Plus the chrome was flaking off the backside right off. If you live in SoCal, Faith Plating is the man. I had the bumpers done about ten years ago, they still look great (except my kid hit a light pole, and the front is bent) and NO they didn't spray the backside silver.

You obviously have the right to choose to do it wherever you want, I was just saying. I have heard of both those people and seen there reviews, its a little unfair to judge the whole country on that though. Thats like saying "I WILL NEVER DEAL WITH THE US! SEARCH FOR JIM BUREK".
Truth is, the reason why it is so much cheaper is because they dont have the same chemical regulations we have in the states. And just as anything else, I would expect that you would look at the quality of the work from the shop before you did business. My dad has had chrome from the same place on his regal for almost 6 years now and it is still great, not thin, and not a flake.

The key here is to do it local. The real joker in the deck is shipping. This increases the cost significantly. Also when you add a third party to the mix bad things can happen to your chrome. A delivery guy will think nothing of throwing your bumper around the truck. Best bet is to have as few people handle it as possible.

I agree. I have a couple of places that I am looking at. One is your place in CT.

As far as my Mexico comment- I have seen other Mexico based chrome pieces from several other people that were piss-poor. Yes, I have seen replated ones from US based chromers as bad or worse. However, I can at least go to the source- VS the Mexico-based chromers. Hence, based on numerous observations, my decision is NOT to use a Mexico-based chromer. :Smarty:

  17. Well said and well informed. Just curious Adrian, do you happen to know if your dad's chrome was the 3-stage - copper, nickel, chrome - process, and is that place still in business?

Phil It really *is* a 350...

Hmmm.. I actually have a 72 front bumper with factory original chrome that's thin, flakey, and resembles a dry lake bed. I'm only saving it because it's dead-straight.

    No worries George, totally understand.

I wasn't as into cars when my dad had gotten his done so I wasnt into the details for his. I know they are still in business because the kid with the Chevelles dad just scored on a 69 Charger and they brought the parts down there a couple weeks ago, but the name I don't know, I can e-mail my dad and buddy and ask them for the name and details if you'd like. I will be going to do my rivs front bumper, and possibly my ralleys when I get home in july.
