So I try to just do a simple tune up on a 75 455 HEI easy right? Cap rotor plugs wires that's it. The car was running horribly before would barely idle and bog and backfire through the carb. I pull the plugs all fouled nasty and split fires to boot. So I put my trusty AC's in and the rest of my new stuff and cross my fingers and say that something has to work once in awhile and........... nothing not a cough or a sputter seems like no spark at all. HELP

    Thanks, Kevin:Do No:

Make sure the coil plug wire is on all the way....for starters....

Might have you bumped a wire off of the HEI? There's got to be an electrical gap somewhere. :Do No: :gt:

When I switched the coil over to the new cap, I thought I transferred the connections correctly, There are 2 different connections that go into the cap maybe I screwed those up Could There is one double connection and one single am I missing anything? Could I have blown the ignition module and if so where is it, are there any other grounds? Something is not right...

    Thanks, Kevin:ball:

This happened to a friend of mine just a couple of weeks ago with his 86 regal. It started up like the way you describe yours. Turned out the pick up coil wires were brittle and cracked from the heat and the age. I think they cost about $10 at Auto Zone. For that price it worth replacing even if yours are fine.

Just my thoughts but you figured it before I read this post. My freind did this exact thing back in highschool when he put HEI on his El camino.
