One day late

It happened this morning. One day late. Yesterday was my 42 b-day. Wanted to take my 71 GS out for sentimental reasons and listen to the music of a well tuned 455. But, bad weather.
I wake early and the sun was peeking. I push my fire red, white top, white gut beast out of the garage. Don't need to wake the kids and wife.
It's about a 5 mile back road drive to a local interstate that's more like the autobahn in the early morning hours. A late model Mustang saw me comming and pulled out of a side road in front of me. Not a soul behind me. He could have waited. Floors it, slows down. Floors it, slows down.
The onramp is about 1/4 mile long with a slight turn to the left before you need to merge. Oh, and down a slight hill.
We both knew what was going to happen. The GT is on the ramp and nails it. Not only did it look like he was towing my GS, he must have felt like he was. It would have been easier to stay in the right lane when we hit the interstate, but I just felt like he was going to go for the left lane to prove a point. I was right. We both waited for the white merge line to end. Neither of us jumped early. I'm still on him. Left lane.
Right away I turn my right directional on. Don't know why, he couldn't see it. But I jump in the right lane and slowly start to pass him. We were both pushing it. At that point I didn't care if I blew up, I just wanted to make sure I stayed in front of him. I did. My right tail light still blinking.
There's a little more to this kill story, but this is long winded enough. Let's just say I dodged a ticket from the Highway Patrol but I don't think he did.
GS vs GT. Even in the alphabet S comes before T.

Sorry for the delay, I've been out of town.

    Yes, posi and 3.42s

Well, we both get pulled over about 5 miles down. The Mustang first, because he was behind me. Let me say that again, he was behind me.
We're about 300 yards apart. The Trooper right behind me. I'd say he was in his mid 50s. Tall. Says he saw the whole incident from between the on ramp and the off ramp. He'd seen my car a few years ago and wondered if it ran as good as it looked. Phrased as a question I said yes. "Nice" was his response. Right then I knew I was good. Then it got better. He started telling me about his 72 GTO! Black. I told him I've seen the car, but never up close. He asked me to wait a few minutes before I drove off while he went and spoke with the "Ford" He didn't say Mustang. I said no problem and thank you. As he walked off he smiled and said, "maybe I'll see you on the road again in a different car".
I watched in my mirror the Trooper go from the "Ford's" car back to his with what looked like some paperwork. I drove off.
Now the really funny part of this whole thing is when I see that Trooper out there with his Goat someday. I hope I'm in my daily driver! 180 degree thermostat, Steeda underdrives, K&N cold air intake, timing advanced, metal matrix driveshaft, 3.55s, Superchip tuner, and the list goes on... "Ford" Crown Victoria!
    See photo.
