Had my headlight bezels and top latch receptacles plated for my 72 GS ragtop.....they showed up today and the latch parts are nice shiney bright chrome!!! At first I wasn't happy because they are supposed to be a nickel or rougher type finish but you know, they look really good so I guess thats ok with me.

Nobody seems to know what they are supposed to be anyway.

I'm also thinking of removing bumper rubbers and leaving bezels chrome (instead of black in middles)...seems kind of silly after all this effort to keep car stock but would be an improvment I think.

    Thoughts??

    wow??

    Tim,
You going for a concourse type resto? You want a GOLD status??? Its all on how you want things to look or how did they look from the factory or how someone judges a car......too many factors....... it all comes down to what are your final intentions......

I like your approach on keeping the car all stock appearing as it came from the factory. I learn from it. Your web pages are great. Actually, the web pages are a good resource. I feel for your wife but you make it work.

So, I'm sure if you put it on the car it will be okay for now but you'll change it eventually....... I think you need to build a old street rod to break yourself form this mess.....

Lon, funny you mentioned that....I have been playing with perhaps doing an old rod someday....

The problem with a correct resto is the more detailed you get, the expense goes up exponentially..kind of like power mods, it taks $$ to go 12's, but it takes $$$$$$$ to go 11's and even more for the 10's...

This car could never possibly be concours quality due mainly to me putting it together (even though I am a professional aircraft mechanic I am not a professional restorer although I have seen some so-called ones that weren't that good) and the fact the car had to have so many parts changed out. I'm ok with some modern pieces like the prop valve, just for safeties sake....

And while I like to keep it looking original as much as possible, a guy could always paint the bezels later, or change bumpers later. I am worried that with all the new stuff going in, I need new bumper rubbers and they just aren''t out there or in the budget, which has doubled now what i originally planned.

I like the look of the headlight bezels in all chrome, no black. I also like the smooth look on the 70-71 bumpers. I would like to think that with all the time and money I am puttng into the car I can make some consessions, although I am sure they will get pointed out by someone!!
