So I'll post here... Roger - I know EXACTLY where Notrees is, I spent a week there one night... ENGINE: I'm building the 455 with something like an RV cam, maybe a little bigger, I see no sense in revving it above 5100. I dunno, maybe 400hp?, but lots of torque between 1500-4000rpm range. One notch, maybe two above stock. I'm looking for the 200-R4 tranny's deeper 1st and 2nd gears to get me moving, and the .67 overdrive should give me something like 1700 rpm at 75 w/ 3.08 gears. 8.5 AXLE INFO: My 3.08 gears are nice and quiet. 285K miles on them, mostly all highway. It was rebuilt about 30,000 miles ago, all new bearings/seals, and I've used synthetic gear lube in it ever since. I haven't checked the posi carrier's spider and side gears, but can do that this weekend. (you talking about pitting on the gear teeth, or somewhere else? I'm no fan of c-clip axles either, but thankfully mine are bolt-in Buick axles, just the posi carrier came out of a c-clip housing. Can't the c-clip carrier be used on bolt-in axle shafts, or is it a weak link too? 9 3/8 INFO: I'm thinking a 9 3/8 would be stout enough so I wouldn't have to even worry about it for the rest of my life, and I've got a line on a (supposedly good) posi carrier on this board for $250, if he's still got it. What do you mean by "good ratio 9 3/8 gears"? I'm not interested in anythink like a 3.42, from what I can figure, even 2.73's would work, but I like the 3.08's. btw, do you have email? Might be easier than checking in on this board.
James, Been very busy between work & ballgames, no time to transfer long detailed info in my PM box, so it has stayed full Best to e-mail me @ resto_services@yahoo.com. Have copied your response & will drop you an e-mail later tonight. Heading to ballgames right now... :3gears: Roger Hate to admit it, but at least half the year... my boys favorite practice shirt reads "All baseball, all the time"...
