Won't make the big show. Its just over 1 week away and I'm just a working stiff too so have run out of time, mostly due to delays beyond my control. Best feeling in the world ithough is seeing all the parts leave my house and go onto the car, every piece just adds that much more to the car. Amazing where some of this stuff has come from or how long its been sitting there!! Just thought I'd fire out this update for interests sake. Later Tim http://members.shaw.ca/ritc1
Tim- Looks like we have same project going on (although you are slightly ahead of me ) I'm doing a 1972 GS-455 conv 4-speed, flame orange, saddle interior and top. Will post pics when I learn how. Looks great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep us posted BOB BUICK
Tim, That looks very nice :TU: . What was the big show you were shooting for? Get ready for some heavy duty compliments, on all that hard work you did on your car, this summer. Bob, can you show a photo of the car your workin on? I'm also working on a '72 ragtop, 455 4spd, and they only made 12 of them that year. Here's a before photo. Joe X.
Wow, your before picture looks considerably better than mine did!!LOL 17% of the 72 gs 455 four speed ragtops just posted to this thread. Thats cool!! That also makes me envious! The big show was the local indoor world of wheels, couple extra prizes available for first time car showed, etc so slight chance I could win something. Mostly just to meet some people and make some contacts, BS a little and maybe give people something new to look at. Oh well... later Tim
JOE- I,m pretty new to computers (been around BUICKS a long time ) soon as I can I'll get some pictures posted . Love to hear more about your 72, don't see to many of these. BOB BUICK
We started out, with just an under the hood/engine compartment cleanup, and ended up almost doing a full, frame off resoration. Here's a underhood before shot, looked real rough. Joe X. P.S. Did you happen to see the GM price guide, in the latest HMM?
Looks awesome Tim. From the few shows I've seen, That car sould get some serious recognition when it's finished.
Joe, very small violins playing for you. In other words, no sympathy. You had a nice car to start with compared to this 71GS455 4spd Convertible (1 of 18) that I've had under construction for a very long time. This is more like what Chris is doing starting with totally a wasted mess inside and out.
In the 80s before it rusted to hell. Someday soon I hope it will be back alive as a #1 condition car.
Its wierd how that thing rusted..almost looks like bad body work or metal prep before they painted it??? Not the usual spots. Cool car, neat color.... later Tim
No Stage1, it's a regular 455 4spd. When it is redone it won't have the GSX stripes or rear spoiler anymore. Back to original with a few add ons like posi, dash gauges & tach, N25. Looks like Tim's going to finish before this one gets redone. I wouldn't have posted it again here, except that it's nice to see some of the other 4spd convertibles starting to show up. And Tim, it looks like you're doing a really great job on yours especially considering the starting point. Keep us posted, it's fun to see your progress. :beer Joe, nice work. Just was teasing a bit. You're lucky to have had the advantage to start with a solid car but I'm sure there were plenty of scraped knuckles and sweat and tears along the way to get it done. Hope to see it sometime. I'm a big fan of the convertibles.
looks to me like it was saved from a burning building. Right. not the usual rust locations. Hard to tell from pics though. Could even be shadows. Looks real rough though.
Personally guys, I don't think any GS convertible is regular. The big engines will always bring more money but I don't see the "just a 350" or "just a 455" or "just an automatic" point. Ragtops are for cruising, not racing, and there were so few of them I think they are all special (no not saying that because mine is a 350 machine!! ). later Tim
