Thanks guys, it is awesome to see color on this thing. The color is really growing on me, looks different again with most of the top mechanism in place and carpet in there for my knees.. One more bow to install and then will have more pics. Also, the top place is dragging their butt, if they delay it any more I will be painting the car first, get it completed and running, then have top later. Problem with that is people crawling all over it with fresh paint doesn't give me the warm fuzzies. You know they're gonna scratch it no matter how careful they are, which is why we decided to do the car this way (actually the guy who is painting the car does all his cars like this, jambs, then assemble and run etc then final paint and no sign of edges at all anywhere, pretty amazing). Its all very exciting!! :beer later Tim
well thats easy ....let them install while in the nude... p....no buttons, zippers or clothes stitchings rubbing on orange...
maybe "Scratch" that idea...they might wanna charge you more since you will be taking pictures....   joking aside....when will the paint be shot?...we are very anxious 2 see ORANGE..
Not out of the woods yet. Top went together nice, works as advertised (manually anyway), folds nice and even and smooth, looks great. What a monkey motion. PROBLEM is, when the top is down the part that sticks forward (ie, forward rail aft is pointing forward) is about .75" to the right, both sides (ie, measure from internal sheetmetal on the RH side about 1.5", on the LH side about 3.0" so if you could move it over.75 you would have 2.25/2.25"). I am not sure what is allowed, I am not sure how to correct, and I am not sure if they will drop into the interior panels so the boot will go on properly. I will assemble the interior panels tomorrow and take a look...it doesn't make sense as the top is perfect when up, everything lines up nice, square, centered and snug. Any thoughts or ideas on how to adjust this?? Will post in the ragtop forum, wish I hadn't looked!!!LOL later Tim
Great Job! Tim , the car is looking GREAT.. :TU: I went to your website and checked out all the work you have done , and lots of good pictures.I love the colour ! I guess I'll have to take a trip out west with the Pace Car and see it up close! Thanks for putting all your hard work on your website, which is alot of work also ! Ted
Its getting there....doors and fenders are back on, final blocking today and hopefully will be sprayed by end of the week. Will not be wet sanded out though so won't be coming home. Bummer. However, looks like next week will be home with some luck... Bumpers were re-chromed, told them exactly what I wanted, wasn't worried about paying for good work. But when I get average work for excellent money then I get upset. They will be redoing the back one. Chrome seems to be a real sore spot, you get screwed every time you do a part. Esp pot metal. Makes a guy want to just paint them all with that chrome paint. Or actually ship them across the contry but then the shippers wreck em... Stainless critical pieces (w/s reveal, top opening) I farmed out too. I know you can do 90% yourself but this guy does fantastic work and price is good. These pieces are big and in your face. Gotta be perfect. Need them so we can get the windshield in...using urethane so need the trim to set the correct height. There will be pics of this guys work on my site, I've seen him take dented and bent over stainless and make it look new, and I mean new..all by hand, no power buffers used. Look like mirrors. Top is home now too, gonna look great with that color! Also detail items like emblems etc getting sorted out and touched up. Thats about it. Did manage to buy wifes gift too, almost forgot about that in all the excitment! Bummed it won't be here when the whole family shows up for the holidays, but not going to rush the most important part after 5 years of banging my head against the wall....!!! Website will be updated. Ran out of space so created another new page again.... later Tim
sounds great ....comming 2 think about it....dont rush the painter...treat him like a king... cant wait for pics... btw...Christmas for wife???? I told mine the new mig welder was her Christmas present...I'm just borrowing it for a while.....:beer and the sandblasting cabinet was her next months birthday present... :bglasses:
Can't tell ya...she cruises through here once in a while, hate to spoil the surprise. Oh yeah, and we're shopping for a new vehicle too, why not add to the confusion, right??? later Tim
I've been following this project and all I can say is WOW!! Looks awesome and your labors are certainly paying off! Good luck and keep it up!! :TU:
Project orange crush is looking wery nice. Love the color. That Burnt orange color is making a comeback in new cars. Can't wait to see the finished project.
That's nearly the color I want when I buy my Avalanche. Looks great! I can wait for the finished product!
Hi Bill, no not yet. I found some side rails but with the holidays etc just not a good time so they will be shipped right after the holidays. Hopefully they are in decent shape, then will have to be blasted and painted, etc... It turned out that one siderail had a bent arm so what was happenng was that on the way down the bend made the rail load up towards the center of the car. Oddly enough I took it apart and bent it back and it seems to be ok, but I don't trust it enough to spend the money on the top install, etc. Mostly I was mad at myself for not seeing it four years ago when I test fit the top frame but had no interior panels at that time to see the difference... Plan B is in effect, car is being painted and will come home like that. I will put rest of car together including the elctrical so I can run the top up and down with the actuators and if it is ok like that then will get it covered (Top will now be the last item). Regardless I will be driving the car this summer, even without top cover installed. Can't do any of the big shows like that though...we'll get it sorted out. So stay tuned, most of the info is on my website, it will get updated first.I even had to add another page as running out of webspace... And yeah the orange is coming back, kinda wish it wasn't, I like me cars to standout a bit from the crowd... Anyway, Merry Christmas to everyone!! later Tim
And yeah the orange is coming back, kinda wish it wasn't, I like me cars to standout a bit from the crowd... Me too just a little. The last 3 cars I've had have all been painted Competition yellow, GM color, and all 3 were Fords. Just a thing I have for the GM yellow. yellow on rods just looks GOOD. My car now has Yellow candy flames on yellow with a bit of gold pearl in the clear. . Not loud, but different.
