    Brett,
Again, some things on Ken’s list would only work for a specific time period, the 1971 model year, and for cars built in the Flint plant.

My 69 car built in Oshua Canada had lots of different markings, and so did my 71 Stage 1 car built in Fremont.

this was probably bolted to the engine while it was still wet.duane told me awhile back, sometimes you can tell by unbolting the part from the car and looking at the part that wasnt exposed to the elements or heat!!

Here are some pictures from my '73 LeSabre with just under 7,000 original miles.
IMG_1595.jpeg IMG_1596.jpeg Notice the markings on the radiator cover. There are paper tags on the lines behind the air cleaner, plus a tag on top of the master cylinder.

The pics of the 69 saddle bag/firewall codes are on the thread for my car. There are 60 plus pages on that thread so if you want to find them have at it.

As far as the different ways of coding parts, many are plant specific. I remember seeing lower rear axle control arms having the letter codes physically stamped into the parts on a Fremont car, yellow ink stamped for a Flint car, and having paper stickers for one of the other plants. All were the exact same part, from the same production year, and all were different. Almost all the Plants coded things differently, and you can often find out how they coded things from the buildsheets.

The only thing I am saying here is if you don’t take into account the things I mentioned before you will be “mixing & matching” this info, and it will not help you restore your car correctly.

If you look close on the above pic, it also shows the 2 stripes for the trunk lid gasket alignment.

Plus the yellow paint stenciling on the tire treads. I had an original spare tire out of a 70 GSX that still had the stencils. It had never been on the ground.

Dennis Lyons sent me the Pliacells, and that pic is from one of my articles.

If you look at he pic the Pliacells are on the left and the Spirals are on the right. The Pliacells were taken off a 70 car while the spirals were NOS.

As noted the installed shocks had some undercoating on them and were painted black at the bottom, because they were installed onto the rear axle BEFORE the rear axle was painted black.

The 70-72 assembly manuals (and maybe 68 & 69) state the axles were painted black, as were the tips of the tail pipes (and other areas). The reason was for the rear of the car to look good, as in not rusty, until after the car left the lot.

Some had only the bare minimum of paint while others look like they took a bath in it.

So now you know the rest of the story.

    PS,
If you look at the NOS spiral shocks you will see that the lower bolt assemblies, and uppers for that matter, were ALL painted including the rubber bushings.
