I talked to Dan today about this roller tip rocker issue. For this years event we will allow you to use them as long as they are the correct ratio for application. But what we are going to do this year in tech. inspection is hand out a P/S survey sheet. On this sheet will be questions or suggestions, rule changes or maybe something pertaining to the event. Will keep it simple by using a yes/no box. Will also leave a little area for you to be able to write us your feed back too. For example we have this roller tip rocker issue. That will be one of the questions on this years P/S survey sheet. After the race this year will set down and tally up the votes on roller tip rockers. Now if the majority don't have a problem using roller tip rockers will support their vote. That way everybody gets to vote and voice their opinion and not just a select few like at Tim & Rhonda Clary's living room. Oh by the way, thanks for the great party, and the use of your living room. And we also apologize to those who felt left out with those discussions that evening. So please give us your feed back on this P/S survey sheet. Thanks!

Great! Now they're legal again. I just purchased and put GM "O" type non-roller tips on the car and sold my roller tips. Yes, they were stock ratio and have been on the car for a while because they were legal and I have the email to prove it. Somebody must have filled out their survey early...:Do No:

Hi Bob.I think this is good news.A roller tip rocker is not a performance upgrade,it is simply a more durable part.Much the same as using steel connecting rods in place of cast. While rules are essential, they should be dictated either by you,and Dan,or the mass of the particpants, not a small group who are the most vocal.A vote is a good idea.I get tired of people who never have raced or probably never will race, questioning the integrity of the race.I for one dont care about thier opinion.I do care about the opinions of my fellow racers, and feel what they say is important. If you guys arelooking to slow cars down, roller tip rockers are not the way to do it.I for one race for fun.I will never be close to the fastest car,and i dont care.I have a great time. Now Bob,about that name, bobbyboo70......

Personally myself, I really never had a problem with using roller tip rockers. Especially when we allow things like 2.5 mandrel exhaust, x-pipes, NHRA max.compression, Ignition boxes, etc, etc, etcccccc. The small gain with roller tip rockers is so minimal its not even funny. Roller tip rockers are more of a durability item. I know that some participants might get caught up in all this confusion and mess and we apologize for this inconvenience. Sorry Paul. I do think the P/S Survey sheet will help us out in the future though. Dan and myself learn as we go and we make mistakes. It's hard to please everyone.

:Dou: I don't give a crap either way anymore just make up your mind!:Dou:

So are they legal on all cars that race pure stocks?
You can't allow for some and not others- I would think
Even those that have to do a stud conversion to run them,( OLDS )
or that have shaft rockers, FE fords and MOPARS.
Just want to make sure before I run out and put them on Rhonda's car and find out no. But then again- must run original style valvetrain for year make and model is out too.:Do No:
I'll wait for the reply on this board , not a phone call please..

    Hey Tim,

Don't WORRY about the survey, they had a survey back in I think '02 about the F.A.S.T guy's racing @ staton with the pure stockers, and I think it was like 85- 90% said let them run and that NEVER happened,:puzzled: it really would be nice to change a rule for good or keep it the same, This back and forth is tough on a racer, selling parts buying new ones getting rid of the new ones buying back the old ones,:Do No:
Maybe have a meeting @ the track when ALL the racers are there would be the best thing, oh wait then nobody would talk about anyones car cause everybody would be there.:blast:

I don't give a crap what anybody else thinks racer or not. This whole tech by committee crap stinks. I've done this for 10 years. Maybe it's time to do something else.

Read it again. If the survey says they're Ok then they're back.

One last thing I would like a public answer too.
LIFT !!! I asked at the party and didn't get an answer.

Are you counting lift at the cam- times the rocker ratio to get total lift( LIKE when I certified)
    OR
Are you taking it at the valve?????
You guys say one thing, SCOTT said another. Which is it??:Do No: :Do No:

answer these questions here so we are ALL on the same page and I'm FINE!

I never knew roller tipped rockers were allowed?:Do No: Something tells me if i would have showed up with a set of stock ratio`ed DLI roller tipped rockers (the same ones i run in FAST) at the PSD`s i would have been ejected. If they are allowed i`d like to put a set on the pure stock HEMI i`m building right now, who knew..:idea2: :idea2: So right now unless the rules change they are Legal for all cars, correct? I think this is a good thing for the guy`s who want to pick up a tad.

    Bob, welcome to the board..

I have always watched this section, and have built a PSMCDR Buick motor or two.. and owning/administering this board, as well as work with car clubs have taught me one thing for sure.

1 guy makes the rules, that's it.. and the rules are the rules, no exceptions. No grey area.

As long as that guy is reasonable, and listens to input and concerns of others around him, then everything will be fine.

Anything done by commitee is a cluster.

We all know that your series has to rely on personal integrity of the racers, in keeping their combo's in line with the spirit of the rules. Gross offenders will be obvious, and peer pressure is the tool to use to get those guys back in line.

I don't think it's feesible to rip every car apart for an NHRA style tech inspection. And in the end, everyone is coming out to have fun, and as someone who has had his parts handed back to him by the inspectors, that is no fun at all.

Just my nickles worth of advice.

Am i missing out on something? Is there a prize? I have purchased a set of vintage crane nos 1.65 rockers,i will run with the roller tips, switch to standard rockers, and let this dog die at Stanton. Is this about getting people kicked out of the race, discouraging new people to come,or what?We are still dealing with parts that are 40 years old,c,mon guys, get a grip.I could not have said it better than Bob did, with the other changes allowed(x-pipe),what difference does it make? Terry is right about the FAST vote,if it would have been allowed,i never would have sold my Tempest.

Too bad they stopped making flatheads 2 years before our 1955-1974 range. The issue would be moot.

Terry, I don't know where you got your % numbers on our last survey, but there wrong. Lets don't forget the final decision on something comes from Dan and myself. And thats what happened back then. We talked about having the Fast cars and decided it just wasn't what the Pure Stock Drags is about. And Dave, were going to save you a lot of time and money. If your building a car to run 11.20's at our event, you might as well keep it at home in the garage. Because we will give you your $100.00 back and tell you to put it back on the trailer. The new flier will be coming out shortly and along with that a short letter from Dan and me. We want everyone to understand clearly where we are coming from, so read it carefully. Dan and me have always said that if our event ever evolved into something that we ourselves wouldn't participate in, then maybe that's the time for us to throw the towel in. I just went by K-Mart today and picked up two large green Martha Stewart towels. One for Dan and one for me. I sure hope we don't have to break them out this year.
