P.S. pump bracket hardware?

    Hi all,

I don't have a factory assembly manual yet. Just the service manual. I'm trying to put together the hardware I need to get rid of the big old A.I.R. pump bracket on my 350 and remount just the P.S. pump.
The AIR pump was removed years ago so the bracket just gets in the way.

Besides these two PS pump brackets, what are the various bolts and spacers, etc that I'll need? Will the pulley still line up correctly?
I thought of just taking a Saws-All and grinder to the AIR pump bracket and then remounting the PS pump.

    Thanks

    I'll check but I think I have a PS pump w/all the brackets off a '72 350 non-AIR.

Here’s some half ass pics of my pump on my ‘71 350, can’t really get a good pic.
    Hopefully they’ll help.

Mine looks like what Mark's looks like. The one back bracket bolts to the head and the other bracket bolts to the power steering pump and pivots off the inner most head mounting hole. A stud on the back of the pump fits into the back bracket as well if memory serves. No real special bolts and no spacers at all in mine.

This looks like what Mark and I have on our cars. Here's a link to buy it for $40.

The ones you posted look like they need the big aluminum bracket like my 70 Stage 1 car uses. You should talk to Todd at Stage 1 Restoration to see if he has what you need. He's a member here and has a lot of the stuff you are probably looking for.

He has all the brackets for the 71-72 cars. If you don't sawzall your current brackets and mounts, you might be able to sell them to him for his restoration business.

    The 71-72 brackets.

    Yes, no spacers at all.
What threw me off a bit was the bracket that bolts to the pump, I’ve never had mine off.

Yep, the 71-72 cars are all steel brackets without the aluminum like the 70 and older cars use or the AIR pump junk.

Will either bracket put the pulley at the same (correct) spot for the belt?

I believe the 71-72 bracket uses a shorter belt than the 70 bracket.

Here's the one I pulled off a '72 non-AIR 350. I can get more pics if needed. If you need it, I'd make you a good deal on it!

Remind me- the 1970 style uses different steel parts if its a SBB vs a BBB. Would 350 steel brackets still work on a 455, so the pump would be higher, or would the pump hit the hood/hoses not reach?

I am not 100% sure but someone else can chime in if I'm mistaken.

In 1970, the A-body parts are pretty much the same, big block or small block. I believe it is the big block bigger cars that lowered the power steering pump and it will hit the frame on an A-body.

I dunno - looks pretty high to me!

I think I have some 455 brackets - I'll try those too and see if its different.

It is on right - its SBB brackets on a BBB. The pics from Bob show the correct BBB brackets on a BBB. Good comparison. That proves I need to switch to the correct BBB brackets, The SBB ones won't work. Thanks!

Bill FYI I can take the PS pump Assembly off my 67 300 skylark which is identical to my BB Assembly and bolt it on my BB. and use the same belt...

Doing some more checking - Assembly Book shows two different part numbers. I'm not doubting you, but for me I am going to try the different brackets. And, just so you all know how my luck is running this week, I went through my junk and I have three sets of SBB brackets, no BBB brackets!

Not trying to hijack your thread, but curious. Are the heads and associated mounting holes for the p/s brackets, whether the earlier (pre-71) or later (71+) the same? In other words, could you bolt 71/72 all steel brackets to say a 68 SBB? Are the mounting holes there and in the same location?

Yes.... The bracket mounting holds on the heads are the same from the Early V6, 215 300, 340, 350, 455, 3.8 RWD..... I have no idea about the fwd motor
