Alright so I have been working on getting my 68 lesabre down to metal, here is what I am thinking of using, for a primer I was thinking http://www.tcpglobal.com/itemdetail.aspx?itemno=KUS+KIT-KEP506-GL

then I was going to buy http://www.tcpglobal.com/restoratio...13+Acrylic+Urethane+Single+Stage&selectedsku=

now is where I am getting confused, I wanted to do ghost flames or stripes on the car, and to my knowledge to do this you mix the dry pearl into a midcoat clear and spray, ive read online and around the interwebs that you can only put certain color pearls onto certain basecoat colors or it just turns to a brownish muddy or foggy color and wont come out looking nice, I wanted to use a purple pearl like this one, http://www.tcpglobal.com/itemdetail.aspx?itemno=KUS+ICP88-1Z for the ghost flames so when he light hit it right the purple flames would pop out of the green am I even thinking about this correctly??

    thanks all

I tried putting pearl in my 1st coat of clear but i have no effects even in the sunlight. I did some testing of mixes on the bottom of the hood and trunk lid and followed that mix i came up with but did not get the same look. So, for me i am going to wet sand the car down and reshoot it. I have read to do several test panels which i agree on. I also read to only put the pearl in the 1st coat of clear and then shoot at least 2 coats over that. I also read elsewhere to spray at least 2 coats with pearl and then coat over with at least 2-3 cots of clear but be careful that it does not turn cloudy from too much clear. When i recoat mine i am going to do the 2 coat method this time and step up the amount of pearl. I only used a level teaspoon per quart, but i keep hearing to use a rounded teaspoon, big difference in amount of pearl IMO. So i will try the heaping teaspoon this time, let it flash and check it, if i do not like the look i will spray another coat of pearl and let that flash. That should be more than enough then and i will coat with 2 more coats of straight clear.

Here is a quick video of how different color bases can effect the look of the pearl. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tstDgK2Y5Ck
