Anybody know a good spray can paint that will match the silver paint on the 66 Skylark GS taillight frames? I want to restore these and the silver strip on top of the blackout rear panel. Doesn't have to be exact as I wil be re-painting all the silver trim. Just want it to be as close as possible. Thanks
Tom, I was wondering the same thing. I have some that need painted. The original seems to have a rough finish on the upper and lower taillight frame, the silver part. The silver on the trim panels seem to be smooth and a slightly flatter finish. Thanks Bill Sangster.
Argent silver?? George, thanks for the tip. Do you know of a specific brand and/or color that works? Someone mentioned "Plastikote Flat Aluminum" as being a good equivalent to Argent Silver. Tom
Tom,i`m not sure of the Plasticote silver so i could`nt tell you,but i bought mine from Eastwood co. but pep boys should have argent silver wheel paint. Thanks
The taillight frames aren't painted....it's just chrome over a rough-finish. However, that area is often pitted, so some have repaired the pitting and painted it silver. I don't think the rear panel trim is painted either....It almost looks like the stainless is glass-beaded to achieve the satin finish. I'll have to do some investigating here....
The taillight frames are painted, with an argent silver paint, which is a low-luster silver/grey color. I wouldn't worry a lot about an exact brand, as many brands sell a "close enough" color. Mine came from Eastwood. Walt, I think we are differing on what we consider to be the "frames". The boxed areas from the lenses out to the bright edges were painted. For a 1966 Skylark, the center panel is chrome ribbing with some low-luster black paint as filler. For a 1966 GS, the panel is simpler, with the paint between a frame of outer brightwork.
