This is no longer supper top secret so we are allowed to let everyone in on some good fortune for Pontiac PS racers.

The ball got rolling after Threefidee and I spoke about the Pavement Pounders series in High Performance Pontiac every month. Jody took the time to send a letter to HPP and suggest cars like my Judge and other quick PS Pontiac's should be run more often in the Pavement Pounder Series. Tom DeMauro the editor ran the letter and contacted me to get it going.

His generosity was wide and large. He requested 12 cars and in the end excepted 13. That is over three full issues (four cars per month) of Pavement Pounders action for us PS racers. HPP/Tom have rented the fabulous Norwalk facility for an all PS event. The date is Wednesday April 25th with a rain date of the 26th.

For any of us that enjoy Pontiac's I please ask that you support HPP when you are thumbing through the magazine section at the store. They are providing an enormous amount of exposure for the best drag racing around.

    The cars excepted are:

    Mr. Glasgo: '64 2+2 Cat
    Jim/JB Mattison: '67 RA Firebird
Jody Traylor: '68 350 HO convert Bird
Bruno Beltrame: '69 RA IV Goat
Tom Miller: '69 350 HO Bird
Larry Weymouth: '69 RA III T/A
Mario DiMonte: '70 RA III T/A
John Glasgo: '70 455 HO Judge (hopefully)
Paul Glasgo: '70 400 Magnum Tempest
Denis Jenson: '70 RA IV Judge (the most experienced car)
Mark Weymouth: '70 RA IV T/A
    Scott Tieman: '71 455 HO T/A
    Paul Aragona: '74 455 SD T/A

    UPDATED

Brad Rising: '64 389 Tripower Goat
Bruce Hayes: '65 389 Tripower Goat
    Noel Drach: '68 HO GTO

Our Pontiac Perenial leader asked to not be included but will be there to support and turn wrenches for all of us. Thanks Dan for the support and great job you and Bob do every September.

All the racers have been pounding out new rides or several serious updates including no less than four new motors I know about. Five if John gets the 455 Judge done. A couple updated motors, trans updates and gear swapping going on. Everyone is really trying to put their best foot forward to show everyone how potent our type of cars really are.

At least three of the cars will go through the PS certing process and some review of it in an article is to happen. We were looking to have a few of the likely fastest cars to be cert'd so the HPP readership could understand our racing better and how strictly controlled the cars can be and yet they are remarkably quick.

Please wish all the participants good luck in representing all of us PS racers to a new venue/audience.

Now THAT is cool, Mark. I don't think we could even come up with 12 Pure Stock Oldsmobiles. That's OK,though, we don't have a magazine that includes anything resembling racing, and the Oldsmobile racers are too busy with their cars for magazines.

Wish they'd get together like the Pontiac guys, and the Buick guys, and Chevy,
Ford, and Studebaker, and Mopar, and even Mercury (group of one and they still both argue with each other... )

now THAT is awesome :TU: I've been an HPP subscriber for several years and from my vague memory I can only recall one PS or FAST type car included in the Pavement Pounders series. And that was Dan's quezal gold 71 455HO T-37, and he was even a late replacement for someone. This WILL go a long way towards getting other Pontiac people interested in the PS type of racing. excellent work guys.

    Mark,
Very cool, hope that a careful explanation of what it's all about will create some additional intrest by some of the Injun Owners. I read HPP often just to see what you guys are up to. They have some of the best engine comparision articles I've ever seen. (SD vs HO):3gears:
Dave I wish that the Ford types were as enthusiastic as the Bowties and AMC owners, the Studie fanatics are off the chart.

There is such an event, Dave. It's called the PSMCDR.

That's neat for the HPP magazine exposure. That will give some appropriate exposure for those fine Pontiac's we get to see every September. The HPP issue will also help the Pontiac guys attract more cars out of the garage and onto the dragstrip. Which, in turn, will help out the PSMCDR as a whole!
I'd rather hang out with the entire musclecar group than just one brand. The last couple of years I have attended the Mopar Nationals only to hang out with the F.A.S.T. racers. Nothing like watching the reaction of the Mopar faithful when Pat Wendling's Firebird pulled onto the track! Some of those Mopar owners are truly "ostrichs with their heads stuck in the sand" types.
I think the most boring are the "one model" shows. I see "Mustang only" car shows and wonder "geez, don't they get tired of looking at nothing but Mustangs?". Same thing with Corvette shows (sorry Donny). Bunch of guys wandering around in their shiny metallic Member's Only jackets with their RayBans perched on their curly permed heads. I can hear the conversation now........."that radiator hose top clamp should be angled at the two o'clock position" whilst sipping their merlot. :bglasses:

No offense taken, Frank, you know by now I am not your typical 'Corvette guy' ....... those guys cringe when they see me coming (too?)

I'm here for you, Frank. Let's race!
I'm always trying to get other Ford people I know to come out to the PSMCDR. Actually, I'm trying to get this guy I know who has a 72 LT-1 Corvette to come out to an event. He hardly ever drives his vette.

    Way to go, Mark.

Touche, Rusty. BTW, what's that other Hurst car in the background? Looks GM-ish, Nova? Never saw this pic before.

    Mark,

Which cars have new or updated engines? Also out of that group who has the lowest ET going into the shoot outs? Just curious....

Thanks for the kind words everyone. This has been a great group effort.

Fantastic Old's highjack as usual. We even have a solid Ford highjack thrown in. The highjacks always make me smile and know I am home with friends.

    Jeff new motors are in:

455 HO T/A (lost a cam lobe and took out the motor)
    RA IV in Bruno's car
RA in JB Mattison's '67 Bird
    RA IV in my T/A

Of course we are assuming that my T/A gets finished in time. If not the Judge becomes unretired for the fourth time.

Jeff as of now the fastest car with any history at the race is Bruno's. If my T/A is not ready than the Judge has the best standing baring Bruno's new motor's potential. In typical fall weather after the PS race Bruno started running some consistent 12.40's and let's assume the new motor moves that time down. The goal is to cert his new motor before the shootout along with my RA IV and the HO.

As of Friday the dynoing is done on all but Bruno's motor.

Back to all things Olds. Anyone got another rare Miss Hurst pic for Dave.:TU:

Somedays you're the pigeon, some days you're the statue. Sorry about that. I'll start an Oldsmobile "statue" thread and you can all leave your mark on it.

Pontiacs always were my first love. Just older big, fast ones. I WILL have one more of them one of these days.

My original post here wasn't intended to be a highjack, but a backhanded compliment to all the other makes that seem to be doing great things as a group, not just a few individuals. Especially you Pontiac guys.

    More LV pics. :TU: :TU:
