Has anyone used peelable paint, like Performix's Plasti Dip or Rust-Oleum's Peel Coat, on the bottom of the quarter panels when running DOT slicks (to catch the tire rubber during burnouts)? If so, does it harm the paint at all? I'm wondering if it would be a somewhat quick and easy way to keep the rubber off of the car. I don't really want to use masking tape when driving on the street.
Why would you need anything on the street? You burn the tires enough on the street to worry about rubber on the quarter panels? Back in the day, guys would use PAM anti stick cooking spray. Clean up is kinda messy though. I wonder if it is possible to wrap just the lower quarters?
We use Lemon Pledge. Goes on easy. Wash off when you wash the car. Does not harm paint, and everyone behind you loves the smell, as the watch you pull away...
After taking it for a test drive this week, it turns out I don't need to worry about doing burnouts on the street with these tires (Mickey Thompson ET's). I've never had soft tires like these on a car before, so wasn't sure what to expect. The BFG's that were on it before would spin quite easily even when really warm, but these M/Ts stick very well at normal temperature. I can pretty much hammer it full throttle from a stop in 1st gear now! Great tires! Those other ideas sound like good options too when needed. They do what they are supposed to do then.. Sometimes it's just more fun drawing lines across the intersections, with sideeffects as smoke and engine noise
