So, I take my clothes out of the dryer and see black spots. I look at the inside of the drum, black blotches everywhere. I somehow got a pen in their. So, I tried a little alcohol real quick and it got a good amount of ink off. But I have to go to work now and am worried that the ink will set more. Any suggestions for removing black ink from the inside of a dryer.

    PS: AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Listen to us motorheads talking about laundry.
I've found hairspray to be great at breaking down ink stains. Washed and dried a few pens myself.:blast:

Try Energine (Naptha), it can be found near the laundry products at the grocery store or at a hardware store.
Well ventilated just as the label says.

Acetone-nail polish remover-absolutely will destroy plastics-use as method of last resort, also well ventilated and not in conjunction with any other product.

Don't know if you have a gas or electric dryer. Use due caution.

one time comming home from college for the weekend i packed up all my clothes to wash at my moms house. tossed it into the back of my truck without a care in the world as i had done some many other times. only this time was different!

the gas gage on my truck had fouled up so i was inclined to carry around a gallon of gas "just in case" i happend to run out.

after the two hour trip, i get out and notice the gas can had tipped over... i look a little closer and see my whole back of clothes wet and covered with gas!

about 20 washes later i got the smell of gas out.

i asked people not to smoke around me just in case:grin:

    Ink in Dryer

Some of these replies are breakin me up !

This is a serious situation Erik -

I have had good results disolving blue/black ink with rubbing alchohol - it works on plastic/glass computer surfaces, should be OK for dryer, don't use dryer until the fumes evaporate/dissipate.

Nice hot lacquer thinner will take it right off. Be very carefull just to use a few drops on a rag and the spots will wipe right off. don't rub the spots too long and don't use it on the plastic parts (unless you like gooey fuzzy plastic). Also, DO NOT RUN YOUR DRYER UNTIL ALL THE FUMES ARE COMPLETELY GONE... BOOM!!!

Yeah, use a candle to check if all the fumes are gone.
Not easy to see with a flashlight.

Thanks for the replies so far. Woman at work also suggested hair spray. I also thought of naptha on my way to work. Its an electric drier.

I don't know whether I'm more upset about having to clean the drier, or the fact that I ruined two pair of pants, both nice ones, too.

I'd be PO'ed about the pants. The drier is an easy fix. 5 minutes of rubbing with thinner/stuff.....or $60-70 worth of nice slacks and an hour of shopping at the dreaded mall on Christmas eve:shock:

and in true punk form, if you write on your clothes some significant quote from a song, line from a poem, or some girls phone number, the ink will disappear so fast...... [IMG]
