Very interesting. I like I&III better w/o the molding. I really want another '66 (had one w/ every factory option exc. vinyl top & 2x4 & should've kept it) but I like different & think a '70 w/the right options/colors/condition would be neat to have instead.

Thats all cool info thanks for sharing!
Based on that I guess I have a III. I also have cruise control AM Radio with an 8 Track below it which both do not work unfortunately. I am thinking of putting gauges underneath all of that for Oil, coolant temp

    Very Nice!!
    Welcome.!!
You know I never really fancied to much for the 70 Riv but now they have sure grown big time on me.. Shame on me..
Buick I think went with the Art Deco look with the big rounded rear quarters and side moldings and the rounded front and low grill.
    Beautiful car:cool:

    Welcome from Florida!

I think that the 70 Riviera is my favorite year. I really like the way Buick did the front and back of that year. That green with the white top is really nice looking, too.

Thanks! Yeah the 70 has grown on me as well. Very thankful I was able to find this one. I am liking the color combo.

I am in Florida as well we could be neighbors :)

I wonder what happened to long time board member Dale from the St Paul area. He had a very nice '70 Riviera for many years and sold it at some point.

He was last seen on the board in February 2021.

So the I, II and III were not the only way a Riv could have been optioned-it appears that the vinyl top, bold trim and short skirts were individual options, based upon seeing so many configured differently than I/II/III.

Edit: it appears one combo was not available-long skirt, no bright trim, without a vinyl top(?)
Edit 2: the text contradicts the pictures-text says ‘III’ has the bright molding but the picture doesn’t…

About edit 1: Of course you could also order the car the way you like.
I will post a photo of a car with that combination later on.
Or check post #13 for such a car.

About edit 2: What you see is the reflection of the floor, but at the rear wing you can see the line of the moulding.

I think by ‘side trim’ they meant the fancy body color and bright outline trim higher up. That would mean, unless a car was an SCO or override or something, that a Buick didn’t list a ‘naked’ car-no bright/body color sode teim, long skirts, without a vinyl top.

The Riviera I, II and III were only examples that people could choose from, but they were also free to order the car the way they wanted.

    Welcome!
The '70 is the odd duck of the bunch, but that is part of its charm.

    Hey Joe!
I'm still around, but since selling the Riv, just haven't been active here. Or any of the old school boards really.
I had read about the passing of Brad Conley this morning on a Facebook Buick group, and wanted to check in to learn more. Am so sorry to hear.
I miss the old Rivvy. Am trying to think what if any parts I may still have that would be useful to someone.

Welcome. Option your car as you see fit! and thank you for rescuing another '70.

For mine I changed the color, removed the vinyl, put disc brakes out front, put in a stage1 like cam (old STG1 TA performance cam), put in a 4L80e transmission and 3.42:1 posi unit.
