"poll prep" . . . trannies for big and small block Buicks?

    Dear V-8 Buick members,

As those who cruise this forum know, I've been "pickin' your brains" for transmission advice regarding my wagon "extreme makeover." This process has lead me to realize some transmissions are much more popular than others. Knowing this could have greatly simplified my selection process.

I have searched and seen no V-8 Buick poll to allow members to express which trannies they have matched with their Buick engine. So I would like to create 2 polls: one for big-block Buick V-8s (400 cid and up) and small-block V-8s (less then 400 cid.) For starters I propose the following list of transmissions for the big-block poll:
    • Powerglide
    • TH400
    • TH400 with Gear Vendors overdrive
    • TH350
    • TH350 with Gear Vendors overdrive
    • 200-4R
    • 700-R4 (4L60)
    • 700-R4 (4L60) with Gear Vendors overdrive
    • 4L60E & 4L65E
    • 4L60E & 4L65E with Gear Vendors overdrive
    • 4L80E & 4L85E
    • 4L80E & 4L85E with Gear Vendors overdrive
    • 6L80 & 6L90
    • Specialty Racing transmission
    • Other automaker's transmission
    • Other transmission
It is already a bit too large for my tastes and may need pruning. However, does anyone nominate another transmission model that they are using on a big-block Buick V-8 engine? I need to add a few more transmissions for the small-block list. However, I'm soliciting nominations for that list too.

So V-8 Buick tranny gurus - what do ya' think? :Smarty:

    Thanks for your help!! :beer

P.S. Looking at the list now, I'm tempted to drop all the Gear Vendor entries except for the TH400. Anyone using Gear Vendor secondary transmissions for something other than the TH400?

P.P.S. Would folks prefer a separate poll for "da' Nailhead" subspecies of V-8s?

I would agree, no GV except for Turbo 400. If you want a GV, you probably want a really beefy tranny to begin with.

You might include a sub-poll (a second one below it?) for lockup or non-lockup where applicable.

I would not cloudy the issue with the nailheads at the moment. They are so limited in basic choices in native format and would have to use adapter plates for almost anything but a ST 300 or 400 in auto mode.

Some more popular ones: ST400 (variable pitch) or TH400 converted to variable pitch.

It is a pretty useless poll.Transmissions are taylored to specific cars and their intended use.
