My '60 LeSabre has a s/p powerglide in it and I was thinking about putting a s/p th350 in it instead. How hard would this be to do? If I did it I would switch to a hurst dual gate floor shifter and probably put the switch for the s/p on the shifter instead of redoing the colomn shifter.
I'm not familiar with 1960 Buicks. The only switch pitch I'm aware of are the ST300's, and ST400's. There is no such thing as a switch pitch THM350, although that would be sweet. Then there was the Dynaflow transmissions. If the car has a torque tube, I'm not sure you could upgrade the trans without changing the rear axle assembly. I might be wrong. You might get more responses over in the Nailhead forum.
It is the predacesor to the st300, It is hydraulicly controlled instead of electric. . I thought a switch pitch was a th350 with a few mods
No, the switch pitch is a 400. The ST400 was Buick's name for the THM 400. The only differences were the front pump with solenoid, input shaft, and converter. Actually, any 400 can be converted with the right parts. The ST300 was a 2 speed switch pitch.
Possibly, but the nailhead had a unique bolt pattern. Most ST400's had the BOP bolt pattern which is different. Then there's the connection at the rear axle. Don't know much about torque tubes. Can you switch over to a conventional driveshaft? Like I said, you should ask over in the Nailhead forum, they could possibly tell you more.
