Lots of you know I've had some friends and family have health issues recently before. I've never felt compelled to post here as I have always been able to see the people, touch them, and talk with them throughout everything. Well, this past Saturday on my way home from the junkyard trip I posted, I decided to stop in at my friends Glenn and Doris's house as it's on the way and I hadn't seen them in a couple weeks, which is really rare for us. A little history: Glenn and I became friends through other friends 8-10 years ago. He's 23 years older then I am, has a flat top, and is just a generally crotchety, no BS, old school guy. But, he's also the kind of guy that if you are good with him, you are golden. He'll give you the shirt off his back and go broke to help you out. He owns a metal fabrication and welding shop, and I go out and help him with various projects that are too big for one guy to handle or if he needed a hand to speed things along. We always end up drinking more beer then working, but everything always gets done and it's always PERFECTION. That's how he is. I also ended up dating Glenn and Doris's daughter for about a year. We broke up amicably and Glenn even told our beer drinking buddies one night I was too good for his daughter and he'd trade her for me. With my new girlfriend, Glenn and Doris have been very accepting and caring for her, we still get together for holiday meals like Thanksgiving and Christmas, and they are two of the only people I invited along for my 40th birthday celebration. They've really become another Father and Mother for me with my parents living 2300 miles away. Anyway, Saturday Glenn didn't pick up the phone, so I decided just to drop by their house. Looked like they had company so I just kept on driving and headed home. About the time I pulled into my driveway, the phone rang and it was Glenn. I picked up with the usual "Hey, you crotchety old F***, how you doing?" "Not too good" was his answer. I only had to hear a couple words and I could tell Glenn is in bad shape by the sound of his voice. He got put in the hospital about a week ago with severe pain in his side. I knew he'd been dealing with it for a while, but he's like me, always sore from something and we just walk it off. Not this time. Doris had to drop him off outside the hospital and Glenn went in alone, and that's the last they've seen of each other. When I talked to him Saturday, he had just had another CT scan and was very tired and weak. Turns out he has 6 abscesses on his liver, and they've been there for a long time and he's getting infection throughout his system. I called him yesterday but he was extremely tired and we could only talk long enough for me to tell him I love him and he told me he loves me too. That is not something we had ever said before but I wanted him to know that he means that much to me..... Anyway, if you wouldn't mind saying a prayer for Glenn and one to help Doris through this I'd appreciate it. We haven't and won't be able to see him and I can't imagine how difficult this is for her. Thanks.
Prayer sent. I really like Glenn too. Machinist's almost always need good fab guys, and we prefer the ones that strive for perfection. You might want to go back and hang out with Doris for a bit.
It's sad to hear he is not doing well. You don't find friends like that very often. I pray you don't lose him.
Some friends are hard to explain but worth everything. I got a few of those. Prayers for Glenn and Doris.
Lucas,Prayers sent. I also have a good friend like Glenn. Old and crotchetey. Russ Lemke, you may know of him... The God of Ski-Doo engines.
Hey bud hope everything goes well with him and his family. Prayers and thoughts are heading to the guy up stairs.
Thanks guys. Talked to Doris last night, she had the nurses teach Glenn how to Facetime on his phone so they can at least see each other haha. They have moved him to another doctor, and they took samples of his infection and basically grew them to figure out where it all started in his body. She said they are sounding more positive that he will recover, but he will most likely be in for another week or so. Their son should be here from Texas today, and one of their daughters is already here from Idaho. I will keep you all posted and appreciate all the prayers and thoughts sent their way. This place is an amazing group of guys.
Lucas Jenn and I will add Glenn ,Doris, their family and the doctors to our prayers. Never feel odd for asking your friends to pray and support you and your people in life that need prayer. Thanks for the update
Went and saw Glenn at home yesterday, they let him out Friday night. He is weak, has lost 20 lbs. Said it is a massive amount of pain, and they still don't know where the infection came from, but they were able to drain some infection from his liver although he still has 5 abscesses that will either burst or turn rock hard and just "be" for the rest of his life. He's doing light work at home, but is very tired. Got to hang out and talk for an hour or 2, then it was nap time for him. Thanks for all your prayers guys, it means a lot and he's on his way back to normal.
