:Brow: I can believe that, Ed; this was posted with tongue in cheek.

I live about three miles due west of Indianapolis Raceway Park as the crow flies, near U.S. 136 in Brownsburg, the first town west of the track, and have for 40 years. You can easily hear the louder cars at "The Nationals" from our back porch all weekend long.

From this vantage point, I have seen first-hand the dwindling crowds for the NHRA Nationals through the years, and remember the traffic jams and general disruption "The Nats" previously caused, even after I-74 was opened. Nothing against that; it was a fun time.

Today, the crowd is so small and tame by comparison that if you didn't know "The Nationals" were running over at IRP, you wouldn't be able to tell it by driving around town, and you'd barely notice it driving by IRP on U.S. 136. Not at all unlike NASCAR, IMHO! :TU: BP

Well, I used to go to the US Nats. Haven't been there in 20 years.
I still Love Drag Racing, but it too, like NASCAR, has become too commercialized for me. Drag racing is two cars on a 1/4 mile track, running a 1/4 mile, not 1000':Smarty: It also used to be easier to relate to the car owners/drivers, some of which were both.
Today the driver is just some athlete they plop in the car to drive it.
To Me, the best part of the Nats was watching the stockers/super stockers/class cars. I remember people fleeing from the stands in groves once the top fuel cars were done running. To me those are "me too" racing fans that don't have a real appreciation for cars of all types, they're just there for the "loud" cars.
Pro Stock impresses me more than Top Fuel.
NHRA and NASCAR are their own worst enemy, they neutered the "grass roots" portion from what used to be great motorsports events.

It is with Trevor and I ......

Tom Miller makes lots of sense and mirrors a lot of the reasons I find neither NASCAR or NHRA competitions interesting.

Another is how much it costs to go to events. I feel like a chump forking over the dough they get. Just not enough value there for me. No way.

Rather save my greenies to fry my own weenies ...

$110.00 to race for 2 days, or $110.00 just to walk in the gate with 'most of' your family.......

it really is a no brainer
