While checking for a small fuel leak where the fuel filter threads into the carburetor body I discovered that the outer portion of the filter housing threads are almost totally gone from the carb body, and I cannot tighten the filter to the carb. This is the long fuel filter housing that has about 5/16 deep threaded portion on one end, and the fuel line fitting screws into the other end. The carb body internal threaded portion is about 5/8" deep. Is there a replacement/repair type filter housing with a longer threaded portion available to use the existing carb, OR do I need to replace the Q-jet carb body and all the hassle that goes with it? Thanks for your help! :TU:
NAPA used to make a repair kit for that that used an "O" ring set up. There is also an oversized self threading gizmo that I have never tried, out of fear that metal shavings will find their way into the carb. "O" ring type part # is 2-90A, and does not use a filter but has a 3/8" fuel line fitting. The 2-76, 2-80, 2-81, and 2-82 are the oversized threading type. I got these numbers from an old catalog. These use filters (except 2-80 & 2-81) If you can tell me if you have a short or long fitting, the year, and what size fuel line I can maybe tell you the exact part number. :bglasses:
Leaking fuel filter "Thanks for the info and help Joe" Ended up using a '71 Chevy 2bbl Rochester short filter, that has a larger flange and 1/4" longer threaded portion. It bolted right into the 4bbl with no problem, and the 3/8" fuel line fitting mated up nicely with a little reconfiguration. Problem solved with the help of Steve Lacelle, ROA 10270 (newbie) who supplied the fitting, and technical expertise ! :TU:
I'm glad that worked out for you. GM should have made that threaded portion longer in the first place and saved all of us some trouble. :bglasses:
