Qjet throttle cable??

Just got a rebuilt Qjet carb that and had a few questions about where the throttle cable will be hooked too? My other carb on the car now had a spot where it connected to, but the new carb does not. Does anyone sell a adaptor plate or a add on for this carb to mount the throttle cable to? The chain is a no brainer, but what is a good spot to mount the cable? I am going from a 7041540 to a 7042244. Please let me know what I can use!!!

    Thanks,
    Brian

Car is a 71 GS clone with a 72 GS engine in it if that makes a difference.

There should be a ball stud that the cable snaps onto. Unless I am not understanding your question.

Yeah, there is a ball stud that the chain will mount to, but on the 7041540 carb I have, there is a cable that mounts to the back side of it of where the ball stud is. I might be calling it the wrong thing, but the throttle chain connects to the ball, is it the kickdown cable that I am talking about? It is a cable that slides on itself when you open up the throttle via chain. Let me know if you might know or I might be describing it wrong.

    Thanks,
    Brian

I'm still unsure of what you are referring to. There is a throttle cable, but no chain. There is no kickdown cable unless you have a THM350 transmission. The throttle cable has a sleeve that slides back on the cable housing itself. Can you post a picture?

That would be it. I have a TH350 trans in this car and it has the ball chain for when you give it throttle and then there is also the Throttle cable. It has a spot for it on the 7041540(455 carb), but this 750cfm Qjet carb I just picked up does not have a spot for it. Is there a way to mount it somehow or can I pickup a kit, etc..? Let me know!

    Thanks,
    Brian
Carb I picked up is for a 72 350 motor(which is in the car) and is #7042244

I think maybe a previous owner might have rigged something up because that doesn't sound stock to me. Does the car have cruise control? The kickdown cable (also called a detent cable) mounts on the gas pedal arm itself on a Buick. Some other GM cars mounted the cable at the carburetor. Both of those Q-jets are Buick Q -jets. Maybe someone modified the 7041540 carb.

I will get a picture of it. It doesn't look like it was hacked in or anything.

Where does this cable usually get hooked up to anyways??

Like Larry says the cable has a hole in the end of it and it snaps on the ball that is permanent on the outer linkage arm. Mayb the wrong bas plate with linckage is on your carb. Compare both carbs they should be the same if both Buick.

Yeah, the linkage on the rebuilt carb only has 1 ball and the throttle chain gets mounted on there. Would anyone happen to have a picture of the kickdown cable mounted to a carb? Maybe they used a universal kit that mounted to the carb? This is how it is done now and doesn't appear to be hacked in.

    Brian,
I'm really curious to see what this looks like. Do you have a digital camera? Take a picture and post it, or send it to me at the e-mail in my signature.

Definitely. I will take a picture later on tonight and either post it or send it to you. I am probably describing it all wrong, but all I know is there is 2 things going to the linkage now on my carb and the rebuilt one I have only has a spot for one. Both are Buick carbs.

Ok, got some pics of my setup and it looks like the kickdown cable pulls in when you give it throttle instead of pulling in the opposite way. I also included a pic of my new rebuilt carb, so if you have a solution on how I should mount the cables, or get a kit to mount it all, etc.. Please let me know!!

That chain is for cruise control, I think. It should be adaptable to that shiny carb you have...

Brian, the cable shown in your pics is the throttle cable. The chain is for the cruise control diaphragm. Neither your old or new carb have a provision for the TH350 detent (kickdown) cable...I don't even see the cable anywhere in the pics...I'm guessing you don't have passing gear at the moment, and have to manually downshift?

Some auto parts stores sell different sizes of carb ball studs. You will have to add two more to make cruise and detent functional, and you'll probably have to fabricate an addition to the carb to accomodate. It won't be easy since the TH350 cable is sensitive to placement & throttle angle. Can you find a carb that was setup for both the TH350 and cruise control?

The chain shown in the picture right now actually opens the linkage when the gas pedal is pushed. It is acting like the throttle cable. The black cable in that picture just slides back when the chain pulls it open. I really don't need cruise, I just want the throttle and shifting to work right when I take it out this summer. I will have to check to see where that black cable runs to, but I believe it was going to the pedal as well. LMK if you have any ideas!!

You'll find that the black cable is what's opening your throttle blades when you depress the pedal, not the chain. Detach one or the other and floor the pedal while you watch...it'll become clear as day.

And per the other thread I just read again, the TH350 kickdown cable is attached to the linkage under the dash, so you're OK there.

    Brian,
The chain operates via that vacuum unit. The cable is what opens the throttle.

Ok, I will try it out later today and let everyone know! I will just disable the cruise, don't need it anyways!!! Is there a easy way to remove it all from the car?
