Ok, here's what I have. I bought a complete gauge cluster for my 71 Skylark that has the rally gauge speedo and clock. This gauge cluster also came with a complete dash wiring harness from fuse block out. My question is, my Skylark came with an idiot light cluster and no clock, can I just switch the wiring harness from the fuse block out and get everything to work without having to change the under hood engine harness? Thanks, Josh

all you need is the jumper harness (about 5 inches long) and no other changes will be needed

I think you might need to change the sending units.

    Hey, thanks Mike and Larry.
I guess I should ask another question. The original wiring harness in the car did not have a clock or rally gauges. So the new harness that I got with the gauge cluster is complete with clock and rally gauges. My question is, if i just switch wiring harness, will I have any problems or will everything match up? Sorry if I'm repeating myself, just want to make sure I can get the rally gauge and clock running. Thanks again, Josh:Do No:

Shouldn't have problems. I think Mike is telling you that the harness you have will work and everything will plug in just take the rally gauge wire harness off that one and put on your harness then plug in gauge and you would need to change the sensors since they are different for the temp and oil.

correct. The gauges should be able to be plugged into the harness you have BUT some cars need the jumper harness. Its available thru Cars if you need one. (or M&H wires too)

Thanks guys, so if i just switch the little pig tale that will let the clock work also? or is that a completely different thing? and if so will i have to switch the harness to keep the factory style clock hook up? sorry guys I have figured out from you guys that I can get the rally gauge working by just switching the little part. But I would like to get the clock working also. Thanks again for all your help.

If its the original clock, it probably stopped working in 1973. The original clocks used what amounted to a set of ignition points to keep the clock running. There's a spring in there that closes the points, once the points touch one another, they spark forces the points open. Once open the tension of the spring forces them back together. And the process starts all over again. You might be able to file the points to get it working again.

So likely, the points are fried or the spring is no good. Either way, you'll probably want to get the clock converted to more modern quartz movement. The pig tail for the clock is on the harness regardless of whether the car came with one or not.
