    Hey all,
Not sure where to look, but I want to ask about something that happened this morning...

    It's a 350 with older rebuilt Edelbrock 1406.
This is the first time this has ever happened... I was on the expressway doing 65-70 for a couple miles. I accelerated normally and immediately there were two rapid backfires!

I want to say they were thru the carb. That's what it felt and sounded like. This is the first time this has ever happened.
I backed off a bit and accelerated again and it ran fine the rest of the drive.

Loss of ignition for a split second? Loss of fuel pressure? Bad gas? I know it's impossible to diagnose something like this.
I guess we'll see what happens on the way home this afternoon.

There are only two Main things with a subset after that which will make for a intermittent back fire out thru the Carb.

    1) cross firing, wires , cap , rotor.

    2) a lean air to fuel ratio.
Carb , fuel filter at or in Carb, fuel sock in the tank, pump sucking air due to dry rotted fuel line or due to poor clamping of the fuel line .

If your thinking loss of spark for this condition your barking up the wrong tree, so don't waste time there.

The first time I drag raced the Buick I had that popping. My friend said it was backfiring but whatever it was, it was popping. I didn't hear it as much inside the car as he apparently heard trackside. Greg Gessler (RIP) was there and the first thing he said is it sounded like lack of fuel. So he gave me a richer secondary metering rod and it solved the problem. Never had that problem again.

It didn't happen the rest of the day. I'll do some checking.
