hello too all I was wondering how rare tone tone paint was instead of vinyle top? some one told me that strike cars were built this way because of labour dispute? my car has all trim that material top would have just painted from the factory and listed on build sheet. Myself never seen one done like this before in 1970 anyway any one else have one?
I know the president of the GSCA Richard Lassiter has a 1970 stage 1 he bought new with a painted top.
D99 two tone paint option 1968 -72 GS 350, GS 400, GS455s = 2385 609 GS cars had this option for the 70 model year.
One of my 1970 cars is a 25/10 car. Gulfsteam Blue with White painted top. Kind of an odd option but it didn't trap moisture and didn't cost very much originally compared to a vinyl top. I wish mine was just solid Gulfstream Blue and am torn whether I will leave the white painted top. I have seen a few of the painted top cars.
I like solid color my self but too be true too the car I guess it stays had vinyle top cars before{gator grain mopar} and they look nice but very hard on windows and trim is this a poor mans vinyle or up sell from dealer in regards too paint option? 600 plus made in 1970 how many still correct? in colour I like the odds how many on V8buick ? lets see your true colors folks.
My dad ordered a 70 Stage 1 with Burgandy Mist bottom and white painted top. It still lives in Michigan and here on the board.
the painted two tone top had nothing to do with a strike. The shear number of vinyl top cars shows that........Chris, if you paint your white top another color your crazy. The blue with the white is super sharp.
Here is a Gulfstream blue with white top. I have a gulf stream blue with black top. I love the contrast.
thats one good looking ride looks mean just sitting there.... and rare too regardless of motor combo..
here is one a friend of mine used to own, I think it is in IL now. Color is close but not quite factory any more, but the painted top!
i have seen number of cars with painted white tops. not ny cup tea. i had a friend in 1967, purchased a new pontiac beaumont (like a chevelle) 2dr ht that was painted all white from the factory. he had the roof painted a satin black but such that is was orange-peeled. appeared almost like a vinyl roof. it looked very good.
I for one like the painted top, it really looks good with some colors (plus you avoid the moisture problem). I was thinking about doing the whole two-tone thing and painting my top instead of vinyl but only time will tell....Ive been know to change my mind a time or two
