RJS - you really need to get a '68 Shop Manual for your '68 restoration project.
It's loaded with tons of info on the car, and it will answer a lot of the questions you haven't asked yet.
It's the best investment you could make at this stage of your project !!
They are available in printed format, or you can get a CD version, which has both the Shop Manual, and Chassis Manual. :TU:

Im pretty new on this website. I have a Riviera too , 67. My wife hated... sorry hates me for getting it but at some point I had to grow some balls. My son loves the car and everytime I'm working on it in the Garage he wants to be right there with me. At some point he might be useful in handing me the right spanner / wrench. Right now at 16 months hes as not quite there yet but he loves cars and that is his favorite word. ":Car". He loves yellow and black cars. I'm not a mechanic but I love working on the old cars. like you i hate working on my commuter car as its way to complex and my hands dont fit in those tiny gaps. The riv on the other hand is more user friendly. (from the little I know so far , only had it three months). Good luck. I have found ordering parts on Amazon useful and way better than wasting my time at pepboys or Napa actually Napa has been pretty useful for clips / screw etc and minor other stuff.

the car i bought was sitting fot 23 years. So I did the following to get it to run nice.
    1. rebuilt carb. Used kit from Quadrajet parts (they sent me the kit missing one of the gaskets. I called and they sent replacement)
    2. (replace bent valve). from Napa
    3. replace all hoses. (Order on Amazon)
    4. replace all belts. (Order on Amazon / goodyear)
    5. Head gasket kit (cant remember vendor but it was from the internet)

    6. Oil / coolants etc from Walmart.
    7. Painted car. All paint from Eastwood.

    good luck

if you do the conversion to disk please post. I was thinking of doing the same on mine. Right now I checked out my brakes and they work really well but disk all round would be so much nicer.
